I have a comedy that I want to be my showcase script eventually. I like the story and it's hilarious. The problem I see is that it's too "worldly" and offensive for hollwood (and this is after I toned it down). Does this mean I'll never get it sold to a studio and itwould only have potential for independants(If i even sell the thing, but I'm trying to be optimistic) or do sometimes hollywood pick up scripts they don't like aspects of too and buy them so they can turn around and change certain scenes or things to fit more commerical use?

Thats pretty much what happens. People like Joss Whedon have made serious additions to their bank accounts by being script doctors. You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence. The independent and Hollywood scenes work on the same premise. Is it commercial? Will it make money? Thats the key. Thats what is held above all else, in Hollywood and the Indie scene.
Too offensive for Hollywood? We're talking about the same Hollywood that recieved complaints about Vince Vaughn's role as a 'wigger' in Be Cool? The same that invested in Paul Harris' highly racial film Crash?
Concentrate on it being commercial. If it is, both markets will come in for you.

What I should have said was blunt/crude/perverted at times. The whole reason why it's funny is because of that. If i toned it down anymore at the expense of being generic/mainstream it would lose a lot of it's comic relief IMO.

years ago when Porky's came out..... and Animal House ...... it was the outrageous nonPC stuff that made people say, "you gotta see this!"
and have you seen flicks like Eating Raoul?

He is right. Hollywood is where the Farrely Brothers, the Wayan Brothers and all the other crude people made their names and their movies. Its the place for that kind of thing.

There are plenty of extremely crude movies out there. I doubt you would have a problem because of that. I don't watch most comedies because they are crude, perverted and everything else.

I think this movie has hollywood potential upon refinement, which is why it's going to be my showcase script even though I think my horror film will be good too. It is hilarious, probably because 80 percent inspired by actual events and character, just put into movie format. 
A movie just has to come out at the right time. I heard there was going to be a semen-in-the-hair joke in Mallrats but Universal said no way. And Fox puts that same joke on the freakin movie poster years later in There's Something About Mary!
I don't think Hollywood has ever really pushed the limit with comedy as much as they could. The Scary Movie series is pretty vulgar but that's not really the same thing. The kind of jokes that me and my friends tell each other are so offensive they would never be in movies. And no they aren't racial.

Yeah, my script pushes the edges at times, but looks like it would definitely be acceptable. I got rid of the racial slurs(Inspiration due to the character in real life being a racist,) because I figured I was pushing the envelopes as it was on the other stuff and most comedy-drama's don't have racial slurs.
