I've done a huge blitz of agents trying to get one for a non-fiction book.

I've heard from 10 requesting a proposal and/or sample chapter. Two declined at that point but I'm still alive with eight. Are my chances good of getting representation?

I'm completely, freakin' baffled by how this whole forum works, so I'd prefer an email (and I don't even know if that is kosher; it probably isn't...).

Thanks.

It is not possible to place a numerical value on the likelihood of you gaining representation from one or more of the agents reviewing your work. Even if it were, what value is there in knowing the "chances"...given that I can tell you that you do not have a hundred percent chance of gaining an agent from the partials now out, nor do you have zero chance. Your chances are certainly between 1 and 99 %. With a lot more info and an easel and some graphs and calc time, mebbe folks could fine tune the chances for ya. 15%. Maybe some topic and design an editor just mentioned wanting to acquire and maybe you have the platform she wanted, too, So, maybe your chance is 75%.

It is a waste of your mental energy (your writing power) to wonder on this. Write more, query more. It is the only way to more publication. Good luck with it.

And if, you meant this all metaphorically, then let me say you're doing fine, you've gained interest, you've got something worth something, make more!

Two things.

1. If you keep on getting the queries out there and don't give up, PLUS consider to the suggestions of agents (consider the suggestions don't just do anything they say blindly - but they often help)...AND they're asking to see your proposal and sample chapter (s) - I'd say your chances are excellent. You're proving to yourself that they're interested - you've piqued some curiosity. Not always easy to do.

That's all you can do. Keep putting it it there and get better at writing all the time. Develop your platform outside of the non-fic book but inside the same topic area. That helps tremendously. Also, mingle with like-minded writers. Many of us are meeting agents through other writers.

2. If you want to post your email publicly do it this way: ksnyder (at) gmail (dot) com - this way the bots won't snag you.
