Hi everyone,

It's been awhile since I've been here. I was wondering what websites do you use to pitch to prodcos? Right now I'm using Inktip (not that great) and Virtual Pitchfest (very interesting).

So far, Inktip got me absolutely nowhere. The production companies on there are usually dreamers or people with little money (no disrespect but in the movie biz, you need money). None of those companies have even been past my logline! Cost me 60$ for 6 months. Cheap but useless in my opinion. Not necessarily Inktip's fault their website's well done but the result's the same...

As for Virtual Pitchfest, I recommend you check this site. Last week I sent 20 query letters to medium to large prodcos in L.A.!!! 19 out of 20 were negative (I don't think some of those companies didn't even bother to read the letter and just said "no not interested") but one of them was positive. This means that VPF opened the doors of Hollywood for me, now the script has to do the job. Hopefully it will. I've worked really hard on that one. Cost me 200$ for 20 pitches.

I was also curious to know if there are other pitching sites such as Virtual Pitch Fest. Craigslist is insane. Producers are flooded with submissions. Mandy is OK.

Craigslist is a huge waste of time. For $200 you can join the Hollywood Creative Directory; it's the comprehensive listing of studios including development executives, and bodies of work for each one. If you're OK with picking up the phone and calling people, you'll have your hands full. If you would rather send query letters, this gives you the opportunity as well.

I'm confused by your description of Virtual Pitchfest, in that you say they send query letters. You mean the video is sent to the development exec for each interested studio? Frankly it sounds more Inktip than Inktip does...it's a good idea, but does it work? Does anyone in Hollywood take it seriously?

with virtual pitchfest I just sent query letters no videos. The person reading it tells you then if they're interested and ask to read the script.

Does this Virtual Pitch also give you the leads? Or do you find the leads and include a link to the video pitch?

To be honest, it sounds like an unnecessary way to spend your money. All those stories you've heard about writers getting agents or selling specs were done through plain old loglines - no video pitches.

It's easier and quicker to open up a query and read the logline. Anything else (like having to view a pitch) becomes extra work.

IMO, it sounds like a gimmick that might appeal to writers who aren't clear as to how the industry searches for and vets material. Maybe this is an idea whose time will come. But it sounds like a reinvention of the wheel.

I'll bet the one prodco that responded positively would have done the same with just a solid logline - and that would not have cost you $200.
