How long?

That depends. Does she want to see the revision first? You don't want to presume on this issue. If she's waiting for the revision, while you're waiting for the contract, it could be a long wait. It would be best to ask, IMHO. I can't imagine that the editor would have a problem with that.


Remember too that an editor will have to run the numbers on the book before they submit an offer. She'll have to talk with marketing and with the senior editorial staff (unless she happens to BE the top dog,) and then usually a higher-up will have to approve the offer. Normally this will take a few weeks. You might want to wander over and take a look at this article, called "Show Me The Money" by Brenda Hiatt (click for the links on the left), which lists average contracts for romance publishers, by name and line (this is the Kensington deal, right?) It's updated through June of this year. This will give you a little info to compare to the deal they offer.
