Hey, I just found a great writing contest from Kirkus Reviews. They have all the information about the contest up on their site, but basically they gather unpublished short story collections and novels and the winner gets published by Little, Brown.

As an unpublished author, this really excited me, and I hope it helps some of you. Good luck to everyone who submits!

The $150 entry fee is probably going to scare most writers away.

Being the eel's third (turd?) post and including the word "awesome" in his/her lucrative presentation I'd say if it smells like a turd it's a turd.

Suggestion: new members should not be considered "esteemed" but just "new members."

You'd have a better chance at publication if you started putting your modifiers in the right place.

How, exactly, is this contest a better idea for authors than the conventional route of just submitting your manuscript to agents and publishers without a $150 upfront fee? (And for the love of Pete, please don't trot out the old chestnut about how "unpublished authors can't get published these days." That's been debunked so many times we should have a cut and paste reply for it.)
