How did I miss that these exist? They just got them at our library. It's basically a mini AAA-battery powered MP3 player, preloaded with an audio book. You plug it into your own headphones or speakers. They had a good variety in the kids section, and even more in the grown-up section.

Yeah, my public library has had them for a year or so. I'm still undecided whether I like them or not. For now I much prefer BOTs on CD.

I think it's a great idea for libraries since they don't have to deal with scratched disks, etc., but personally I wouldn't want to start collecting them!

My library also has any number of BOTs that are digital downloads. You can play listen to them on your computer or transfer them to your own MP3 player.
