I don't know where else to ask this, and since a lot of the Mod's seem to visit this thread, I thought this may be the best place.

When a member posts a problem he/she is having with their work, sometimes (where appropriate, as in problems with structure) a reply suggests to find a book that deals with the same subject matter or genre and see how that author handled the problem. Very sound advice that I often follow or suggest myself. The problem sometimes is finding a book that is a good match.

Also, there was a fun thread regarding best books ever written. Not only was it enjoyable to follow, the thread suggested some very good reading to add to a writer's collection. To this end, would the Mod's be so kind as to possibly add (sorry for my lack of terminology knowledge here), a thread or subject heading to the COFFE BREAK forum or the CONFERENCE ROOM forum or even the GET WITH GENRE forum called LISTS (or something much more creative) where members could post their recomendations for favorite detective books, or mysteries, or thrillers, or fantasies involving a one-eyed unicorn. Or we could ask what are the best authors of a particular genre, or the best authors at writing dialogue or handling mutliple POVs.

It would make it a lot easier for us to find a book to study (or just enjoy), and I think it would give us a forum to ask other members such specific questions as "What novels used the most snappy dialogue while forwarding plot and without seeming too talkie".

No need to wait for the mods to do it, friend. You can start the thread yourself, just as you started this one.

gp, Aconite is right. If you are in fact referring to creating a new thread, rather than a new forum (like this one, Writing Novels), then you're more than welcome to ask people for feedback as a thread in Office Party, etc.

As for creating a new board for the subject, I'll make sure this thread is brought to the attention of the other mods. There have been few boards created by member suggestion (like Tech Help and Story Research), so it's not unheard of. However, I know there is a concern with the number of forums at the Cooler -- if you haven't noticed, there's a lot! :) Right now we have one or two new boards already in consideration (but not finalized). And a lot of boards means even more maintenance.

For now, I'd suggest starting the topic as a thread in Office Party or the sub-forum you see fit if you have a specific list in mind. While your request isn't implausible, if Jenna decides to add a new board it probably won't be for some while unless a strong need arises.

We're always happy to take suggestions and are glad when people care enough about the commnunity to do so. Thanks for the input!

Perhaps it would work nicely as a sticky thread?

Not a bad idea, adams. Wherever the thread is placed, the mod of that board will take care of it as they see fit.

sticky or thread?

KatieMac & Aadams;

That's more what I had in mind, a sticky or a new board (I told you my terminology was bad). A new thread would be fine, but I know the second someone needs to access the info they want, if the thread hasn't had a post in a while, it would be a pain to find. I certainly don't want to create extra work for the Mod's--I appreciate the time you already put in--but if enough members feel this may be a useful topic, maybe it could be started as a new board or stickied. "Stickied"?? Wait, a new word.Reph, is it plausible?
