My friend always uses white vinegar. She swears by it. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure how you'll go with carpet, because the urine might have seeped down into the underlay, and you'll have to sort that out, but generally, you will get the smell out of fabric/carpet etc if you soak first in vinegar (for several hours or overnight) then wash with an enzyme-based laundry powder. I found this out on my Bengal cat list. If you don't use an enzyme wash and remove all traces of the smell of the urine, the cat will keep going there. This absolutely worked on our rug and (I hate to admit it) our bedding! People on the list also recommended checking for urinary tract infections if the peeing is out of the blue.

Definitely talk to your vet. "Getting old" is not an explanation for peeing all over the house - unless the problem is that the box is hard to climb in and out of and the cat is too weak or has painful joints.

Also, Nature's Miracle cleaner. It smells nicer than the other brands.

Pine oil. (Not pine scented cleaner, but pine oil itself.) My mom had a cat that used to pee in one corner of the room (carpet), and the pine oil got rid of the smell all the way down to the floor.

In addition to an enzyme cleaner, Feliway is a cat pheromone feel-good product that may help your cat relax if it's peeing due to stress.
You can google for product details.

Also, definitely take you cat to the vet.
A urinary tract infection is a miserable thing for both cats and people.

A year or so ago Haggis' daughter had a problem with this and there were tons of ideas....you might want to PM him and see if his daughter had success with any of them. Good luck

Feliway does not work. Except to make you poorer. At least that's the case with my cat.

No appreciable change whatsoever in alleviating feline stress.

Seriously, though, I've heard of cat pee problems so bad that the extreme measure was necessary...pulling up the carpets and carpet pads, priming the floorboards with Kilz or something similar to seal in the smell, and then laying new carpet/flooring over it.

Nature's Miracle - Just for Cats. A very helpful PetCo employee recommended it. It's enzyme based and just plain works.

Another vote here for Zero Odor. I've tried all of the above, too, but I swear by Zero Odor... so much so, I've even re-ordered from the company.
