I looked, and I couldn't find anyone in Arkansas for movie or stage scripts. I know this state is podunk, but, I thought there would be at least one. I'm not native to this state, but B.B.T. is from here! (Billy Bob) I found several talent agencies, and modeling agencies, but that's it. On a whim, I called a talent agent, and was told that script writing wasn't a talent. Anybody wanna disagree with that?

Hold up there. Why do you want an agent in Arkansas, when it's not a movie-making mecca?
You want an agent in southern California, or New York, or maybe Austin or London. Places where film production companies operate full-time.
No, this doesn't mean you have to move to these places, or even visit, although in the long run that might affect your chances. There are agents who never set eyes on their clients, conducting all their business via computer and phone.
Of course, you won't be making film-industry contacts from Arkansas, but if your work is outstanding and marketable, maybe you don't need those contacts--just an agent who has his or her own.

What they meant by talent is something they can point a camera at. Writing is well, very boring to watch. They want singing, dancing, modeling, juggling, acting anything that they can cast their client either on the runway or in front of a camera and make money from.

Don't waste your time on a lit agent from Arkansas. As Maryn mentioned, you want one from L.A., NYC, or some other filmmaking "mecca."
The key to being a successful lit agent is knowing people in the film business, having connections. Nobody in Arkansas has a connection to the film industry. Nobody. Well, there was one, but he died a few years ago.

'Talent' is an industry term for the bodies in front of the camera. The writer, director, DP, you name it, are not talent.
The only agent that is going to be of any use to you is one that is located where the buyers are.
How many screenplays a year are bought in Arkansas? How many producers are buying motion picture or television screenplays have companies in Arkansas?
That doesn't mean that you can't live there or write there. But it does man that your agent, if you have one, can't.
You agent has to be where the buyers are, has to know them, has to have relationships with them, has to be able to go to lunch with them, and be able to call them on the phone and they know who they're talking to.
The overwhelming majority of buyers of screenplays, in the U.S., are in L.A. A smaller number are in N.Y. But mostly in L.A.
If you want an agent, you need to get an agent that's based in L.A.
The cold cruel fact is, there's really nothing that an agent in Arkansas (presuming you could find one) can do for you, in terms of getting your script sold, that you can't do for yourself.

I'm going to tell you what I heard. If the agent is not in Hollywood or close by...don't bother with them. Reasons being because they're not having lunch, rubbing elbows, or interacting with the right people to get your story in the right hands. If you think about it, what can an agent in Arkansas do for you? If you ask me I'd say, "Nothing more than you can do for yourself." Also, you shouldn't be worried about an agent being in your state. If they like your work they'll reach out to you no matter where you are.
