I'm just curious. Many YAs fill up the school year or a summer, but not all. Just wondering how much time your novel spans (not necessarily in flashbacks, but the main time frame of the story).

I'm not quite sure yet, but I would say about half a year.

Usually my novels span a few months, or about one or two seasons. It seems like most books I read span more, though.

The last novel I wrote spanned over about 2 months.

My current WIP is about 3/4 months.

Wow, Todd, that's a speedy one.

The YA portion of my Women's Fiction covers a school year, with a quick leap to the beginning of next school year. The grownup portion spans approximately a year.

My first two novels (both romance) covered roughly a year. I guess I gotta get those seasons in at least once!

my longest is four years.

shortest is 7 days.

ETA: interestingly enough, the 4-year-long one is my shortest ms, and the 7-days one is my longest.

E.L.F takes place over one crazy four days.

The Cold King takes place over...I think...a year or two?

Haha, this far in my outline it's only two days. Might be three or four by the end of the planning process though.

And yet I expect it to be 60 or 70K words at the least. Is this unrealistic?

I have one YA that takes place in one day. Another that takes place in a month. And I really want to work on a YA series where the four books in the series cover the main character's senior year and the summer after. Each book covers from one to four weeks. For example, book 1 starts near the beginning of the school year in September and goes to October, book 2 takes place during Winter Break, book 3 takes place during Spring Break, and book 4 starts at the end of the school year (with graduation) and goes to the main character's birthday at the end of June.

My first two books each took up the better part of a school year. My third takes up the span of one summer, and I'm guessing the fourth will cover fall into winter.

What I hope will be my fifth book will take place over two months.

The City of Fallen Flesh spans over about three months. And Haunted takes place over three months aswell! Though, Haunted book 2 takes place over about six months.

Mine covers... probably eight or nine days so far. By the end it's probably going to be about eleven days tops. Because it has four different people's POV's.
