Accidental Universe Concept Creation

Does anyone else have trouble not making an entire universe and underlying concept whenever they write a poem?

This happens to me every single time I write. As I'm typing the lines of my poem, my mind is concocting the world and the people that it is about. And the general story outline for if I were to write more.

I'm not saying that it is a bad thing but it can be kind of annoying after awhile. Having so many thought out worlds floating around in your head that only pertain to one piece of literature.

Anyone else do this?

I wish. I seldom create a fictional world that can sustain more than one piece of writing. Either my imagination is lacking, or I'm easily bored and want to try something new. I think this is a neat nuisance, one you can use to create a body of work.

Just a little envious.

Not me. If I did, I'd be writing fiction (though likely in addition rather than instead of).

Interesting 'problem' -- one I don't think I'll ever have, because my mind works very differently.

My poems seem to start out with two words that repel or attract, depending on how I hold them - like magnets. Then, when they fit, I look around and see what other words line up with them. If I'm lucky, a spirit emerges from this skeleton.
