Don't forget the APRIL PAD CHALLENGE at Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer. Rob's the guy from Writer's Digest who makes poetry cool!

POETIC ASIDES

Rob gives a new prompt every day in April. You leave your poem in the comments section of the blog. I should have posted this sooner, but it's still quite easy to catch up. You can go there any time and post your poems. If you miss a day or two (or three), simply go back and play catch up.

Step 1: Read Prompt

Step 2: Post your poem in the comments section of that day's prompt

Have fun! There's lots to read while you're there. Rob has great blog posts and it looks like each day's prompt is receiving about 1000 poems!

Forgot to mention --- I challenge all of AW's poets to this challenge! Can you make a challenge to a challenge? Who cares...that's exactly what I'm doing. Get yourselves over to Robert's blog and start writing your PAD-Poems.

Ooo. This sounds fun. We should post our comments here as well!!

I'm going to be in Italy for part of the month, but I can try and write one whenever I get internet access

I know, PH...it's incredible how many people are participating.

Feiss...I know that if you miss a few days, you could easily pop in and catch up...write a few at one time. You can do it.

I did this last year. I felt a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the month when I had a poem in each day's prompt.

Ooh! Good idea. You're posting them in the comments section of Robert's blog too, right?

If we post them in the Chapbook section here too...it will be a good way to keep track of them. They're a bit hard to find among the 900-1000 posted every day!

Fei...I love your Day 2 poem! Nice work. I can't seem to get into the swing of poetry these days. Hopefully these prompts will help me. I enjoyed your Day 2 very much.

That 5 minute blank screen really helps when I'm blocked. I think there's a certain amount of blockage that needs to be written and thrown away before you get to the good stuff.

I got the email about the poem-a-day thing and have been inspired. For the last few years, I've been focusing on my novel writing, so I'm not brave enough to post my attempts at poetry to any site. But I am trying to write one a day. I am studying different forms of poetry and attempting to write two per type.

At the end of the month, I hope to have studied 15 types of poems and have a poem written every day.

So far, I have one free verse and two Kyrielle Sonnets.

Well yeah, duh.

I did cheat, though. I used earlier poems for days 1 and 2, just to get started. If either of them get nominated for a prize, I will decline, on account of ineligibility.

Maybe it's something going around, like the flu, but I've been the same way. :D

A few years ago I started doing the daily writing prompts on Writer's Digest to give my fiction writing a boost. Hopefully this will have the same effect for my poetry.

Thanks, KTC

I jumped in, looks like a lot of fun! I've been looking for something like the PAD.

I did my four, I've got alot going on but I'm going to try and go the distance. That would be a cool certificate to have.

I'm a little confused........

I went back and reread the rules for the Poem-a-day Challenge.

The rules state that your poem cannot be previously published. Some of you have mentioned to collect our entries and someone posted the poem/s in the chapbook section, is that legal?? Will our poems be disqualified if we don't register or something????

It's really just an incentive to write, KD. I did it last year and posted them all to my blog as I wrote them. He means that they can't be previously published as in...you must write them then and there. He doesn't want anybody to simply post poems that they already have. It's sort of like Nanowrimo...the rules are loose. You can post your poem elsewhere after you write it for the PAD. Robert just wants the poems to be created from the prompts. It's all honor system. He will not send out a posse to get you. (-;

I think that's also why the chapbook and crit section are locked - specifically so stuff put there doesn't count as "published" and can be submitted elsewhere. And so it doesn't get harvested and used as spam, I guess.

Thank you for the feed back. I just didn't want to disqualify myself for the possible consideration for the judging that they're going to be doing to be included in the anthology.

I also liked the idea of collecting them in one spot just to be able to look 'em over.

PS: so far, I'm current :)
