Think about all the TV shows that were built around a pair of characters. What happened to the actors that played those roles after the series ended? How many times did one's career take off, while the other's went almost nowhere?

The big example: Bosom Buddies, starring Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari.

Another: Starsky and Hutch, starring David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser. Granted, Soul didn't hit it big like Hanks, but in comparison to Glaser...

On the flip side, I guess there are some pairings wherein both moved on to do quite well. Like Bill Cosby and Robert Culp in I Spy.

Got any more?

Yeah, Jack Lord and "the rest of the cast" from Hawaii Five-O. While I wouldn't call Lord a sensation after the show ended, he was a little more visible than the rest of the crew! :)

Moonlighting. Cybil Sheperd seems to be more of a footnote or the answer to a trivia question lately, whereas Bruce Willis took off like the proverbial rocket.

How sad is it that my first thought on this question goes to the stars of a mid-90s Nickelodeon show, Kenan and Kel? Kenan's on Saturday Night Live now and Kel ... likes orange soda?

Robert Conrad did better than Ross Martin after The Wild Wild West ended. It didn't help that Martin died young.

Harry Morgan moved on from the 60s reboot of Dragnet, while Jack Webb seemed stuck in the character of Joe Friday until he passed away.

Bruce Willis did tolerably well after Moonlighting. Whatever happened to Cybil Shepperd?

Same with Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist from Remington Steele.

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie? (A Bit of Fry and Laurie)

Maybe in the States. But I'd assume he's still pretty famous, considering I know who Fry is. (I admittedly live within my small bubble of American television.)

What about Square Pegs? Sarah Jessica Parker and another actress whose name I don't even know.

Oh, I think I got the gist of this thread wrong - I was just thinking of totally opposite career directions rather than one being famous and the other not. Ignore me :D

She had this short-lived sitcom that started out well but became incredibly dreary as it dragged on. Got a mercy-killing after four years. Hell, everybody from that show has done considerably better than her, before or since: Christine Baranski, Alicia Witt, Dedee Pfeifer, Danny Masterson.

Well hey, then that works. I guess I have to start thinking outside the box!

You forget, David Soul had a four minute singing carreer after the show. I believe the song was Don't Give Up on Us Baby.

Paul Michael Glaser 'retired' from acting to produce/direct. His wife had acquired HIV from a transfusion while pregnant with their second child. Leaving acting allowed him more time at home.

Pam Dawber also 'retired'. She is married to Mark Harmon. When Rick Nelson was killed in a plane crash she and Mark took over raising his children. The children's mother is Mark's sister, and IIRC a drug addict.

Cagney and Lacey. Tyne Daly went on to do eight (I think) years on Judging Amy and has been regularly guest starring and doing MotW's for years. Sharon Gless has...recently played a nutcase on Nip/Tuck? Oh wait...Burn Notice....

Lois & Clark. Terri Hatcher has seen a career upswing with Desperate Housewives. Dean Cain is stuck doing Saturday night Sci Fi Channel flops.

The Adventures of Brisco County, JR. Bruce Campbell has never stopped working. Comet the Horse hasn't been seen since. :(

DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. The Fresh Prince is one of Hollywood's hugest stars (Wil Smith) and DJ Jazzy Jeff is...I don't know where he is. Probably producing or whatever retired musicians do.

Good one.

I'd say Cheech and Chong, then, but they still do stuff together.
