Congratulations to both winners. Those were two of my favorites: excellent poems by themselves, and excellently well-suited to this purpose.

I think mine was the one everybody said sounded too much like an inauguration speech to be a poem. :(

Was it #1? If so, then that's the one I meant - but the thing is, it was an awesome speech, moving and powerful. It made me think about what MLK Jr. might have said, had he been around for this election. I really don't think it was a poem. I really do think it was excellent, excellent writing.

Thanks to all who voted for my poem, "Prayer for Inclusion." I have lurked around AW on and off for years, and registered so that I could enter the contest (turns out not to have been a bad idea, eh?)

Please note that poetinahat misspelled my last name, but I presume that will be corrected on the engraved marble slab that President Obama will soon have installed in a prominent spot in Washington, DC (which, by the way, is my birthplace). :)

You can read more of my poetry and other work at my blog, be whole now: www.rachelsnyder.wordpress.com

It's always heartening to know that one's work has resonated deeply with others. Congrats also to William Haskins, whose poem was one of my top choices. A great effort all-around!

I'll be sure to add this honor to my resume -- presuming I ever get around to actually creating one...
