Has anyone ever heard a song that automatically sets a scene for your WIP in your head. For me it is two songs.

Hollow/Tricky
Past mistakes/Tricky

Character -Adan
Novel 2-

Overcome/Tricky

Character-Laurelle
Novel 2

(can't decide from which of the two point of view to write it from. )

I have a few songs that are like that for me. Good Charlotte's "I Just Want To Live" is the final scene of my third book. A thriller I have reluctantly backburnered for now roars to life in my head every time I hear Brandy Carlisle's "The Story." And even though the lyrics don't really work at all, Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole" always calls to mind my WIP.

Yesssm, "wasteland" by matt white + wasteland is in the title of my current WIP....I think, lord knows I'll change it 50 more times before I'm finished writing it. "I want to hold your hand" by the beatles hits an emotional cord in my WIP.

That's eerie. SMB reminds me of a particular character in a backburnered (love that word) story idea. Also Starlight.

No relation to the story but they both remind me of him.

oh definitely. I have playlists for each book. If I had to narrow it to one song per book, I'd say "Let Go" by Frou Frou for book1, and "Fade into You" by Mazzy Star for book2... or "Daisychains" by Youth Group.

Oh yes...

"Thunder" by Boys Like Girls is basically an entire subplot in my novel... I heard that song and almost died. It's so perfect (even though the song is about a lost love and the subplot is about a lost sibling. Still.)

And "Lost" by Michael Buble (beautiful song) is my mc's boyfriend's thoughts about her (exactly) in book #2.

Both songs usually make me tear up, not necessarily because of the songs themselves, but because of my connection to them through my mc. I love music. Just love it :)

When I heard 'Riders on the storm' I was blown away. It was plot point for plot point--switch the genders--exactly like my novel. It was really cool.

With Detach, it's anything by Clear Light, Lothar and the Hand People, Blue Cheer, Picture, The Frost, the Blues Magoos, The Seeds, the original Alice Cooper band, and Bubble Puppy.

For Jams, it's anything by Bolt Thrower, Cradle Of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, and Nightwish.

For Meleena, it's anything by Clannad.

For Jim McClary, it's anything by Picture, The Groundhogs, Battleaxe, Sir Lord Baltimore, Dust, Three Man Army.

I don't have specific tunes in mind. I find everything by these bands inspirational for these particular characters, depending on the setting.

Being a musician, I appreciate what these bands do as a whole, versus individual songs.

Yep. Mainly though, it's music from soundtracks. There are a few songs from the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack that really help me picture certain scenes.

I think of the last scene in my current WIP every time I hear "Sea of Love" by Cat Power. It's such a quiet, breathtaking song. =]

Well, I envision scenes of my stories taking place to certain music, like a soundtrack, if that's what you mean.

In terms of music actually inspiring the scenes themselves, not so much, though the more I envision a scene taking place to music, the more it might evolve or change.

Right now it's "Horror of Our Love" by Ludo. I have the lyrics written out on a markerboard in my studio. My husband is creeped out.
