I was surfin the net looking for a example of a blank novel outline, and instead I found something alot better. It is called the novel notebook it is a step by step worksheet to writing your novel. Has anyone heard of it? I printed out part of it , and am working on it right now. It is a god send.......

Oh, that was posted by Lynn Viehl. She has wonderful things to share with other writers. I'll have to check this out.

I'm puzzled. What is one supposed to do once the thing loads? I see lots of formatting and uploading tabs and stuff but...then what?

It looks a lot more complicated than just writing a story for oneself. :/

So many people seem to be searching for some magic formula to help them write a successful novel. If this works for you then great.
As I said, I guess this would work great for a second draft where you already have the story and the characters, and you need to look for details and congruence. It would certainly be good to have everything written out.

Hmm. Seems to me like yet another way to waste time writing about writing a novel instead of writing a novel.

you martyr and shine.
I just browsed through that.

All character names in alphabetical order...

It seems to me that if your story is interesting enough to you, you'll be able to remember character details and anything else relevant to the story without cataloging every last thing.

I agree. It's kind of a more detailed version of that Holly Lisle revision link I posted a few days back: great for delving deeper into characters you already know and finding plot inconsistencies, that sort of thing. But to fill all that out before you've written a draft would serve more as an extra method of procrastination (for me, at least).

I think that could be helpful for you if you hit a stumbling point. I know that for me, sometimes I have to sit back and look at the little details that aren't meshing out in the storyline. Something like this could help for instances like that.

Of course I don't think one should spend all their time filling out everything--it seems to me it's just a writer's aid. But everyone has their own way of going about working on their novel.
