Hello,

I am a beginner in freelance writing and I sold an article to a national glossy, my first national glossy :), and they pay well ( or at least I think, I dont really know what to expect...) Anyway, I am wondering if that will make a difference in my future queries, that I can add that to the places I have been published? I have only ever sent 1 query in my life and that landed me that assignement...

Thanks

Tanya

Awesome, good for you!
Yes, clips are samples of your published work. It sounds like you're off to a great start. :)

Yep, after this first one is published you can attach a copy of it to your future queries. Until then, when you send a query, say that you have an article to be published at X date in X magazine. It will sound impressive and let other editors know that you're good enough for the big boys!

A lot of us set up websites with our clips scanned into them so when we do email queries we can direct the editor to our site. That way we don't scare anyone with attachments. You can check out mine at www.denisebertacchi.wordpress.com. I converted a free blog into a clip site.

I did this too, but on an offshoot of my main website: www.barbnefer.com

You have to be careful with rights, which is why not all of my clips are out there. But even if you just list the places you have been published, it will give you more credibility.

Cavegirl no problem. If you're still feeling "green" you can get Jenna Glatzer's book "Making a Real Living as a Freelance Writer." It'll get the green out. You can also check out The Freshman Writer for more info and inspiration. :) Congrats again!
