Questions for British people on this website.

I’m doing research on finding how many prints (screens are booked) are released for a standard American movie in Britain for a standard release. And by Britain I just don’t mean Britain, I even mean, Scotland, Wales and other countries surrounding it.

Regards,

For a mainstream wide release in the UK, you would be looking at 250-plus screens. For example, Pride and Glory opened last Friday on 258. A real blockbuster will open on over 300.

This is for the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). UK distributors also release films in the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, which are not actually in the UK but are self-governing dependencies.

The Republic of Ireland is a separate country, with its own distribution arrangements, and I don't know how big a wide release there would be.

You need to do a bit more research on your geography mate.... Scotland, Wales etc ARE part of Britain.

Sorry mods. Can't ignore this one.

*sigh*

Scotland and Wales are not merely countries 'surrounding' Britain. They are part of it.

Lemme break it down:

Britain: Scotland, Wales, England.

United Kingdom = Britain (as described above), Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth.

Gah!

I think by 'Britain' in your post, you're referring to England which is not, not, not, never will be, the same as 'Britain'.

So what does the term "Great Britain" refer to -- or is it just "Good Britain" these days?

The "Great" part never meant Great in the sense of fantastic/terrific/wonderful.

From Wikipedia

Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia Regum Britanniae refers to the island of Great Britain as Britannia major ("Greater Britain"), to distinguish it from Britannia minor ("Lesser Britain"), the continental region which approximates to modern Brittany

hey Brits

I started this post so I am in a little bit of panic with some of your responses. no feuds please. I feel a sense of danger and quarrel.

I think geeographiclally my post was clear on what I meant when I said British.

"by Britain I just don’t mean Britain, I even mean, Scotland, Wales and other countries surrounding it."

to be more precise, I meant what the distribs call as "UK territory".

any trade websites that you'd recommend me to refer, (that has listing of both number of prints and the amount of GB Pounds the movie is raking in.) would be apprecaited.

I wouldn't have ignored it SP :) , you are right in your description of course.
I think today it's known as 'Depressed Britain'.
Sheesh, agreed with you twice in one thread.

They're all friendly here ace, I don't see any feuds. Specifics are everything you know ;) . When saying 'Britain' it is always a given that England, Scotland and Wales are included and most will also include Northern Ireland in it too :) .

Here's what you're looking for.

Looks like I underestimated the number of screens for the widest releases - the new Bond film was on 540 screens the weekend before last, and High School Musical 3 and Igor were on over 400 each.

Nope. No feuds, danger, panic or quarrels here. And no confusion except on your part, ace. You got your geography mixed up and it was put right for you. That's all.
