Has anyone done this?

I am currently outlining a story for children between the ages of 10-14 approx. Anyway what I want to do is write it like it is a young girls diary that they would be reading. I hope that makes sense. Anyway I am curious has anybody else around here tried this? Thanks.

PS I ordered my copy of the "2005 Childrens Writers & Illustrators Market" today. I can hardly wait to get it.

Dear America

The whole Dear America series was done as diary entries. It is aimed at girls 9-12. Check it out on amazon by searching books on Dear America.

Tish,

You know that is funny. I was asking my oldest daugher who is 11 if she has read any books like that and she mentioned the same series. I guess I need to check them out. Thanks.

Re: Dear America

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret was also diary-based. I think it can work really well for YA stuff. I've read most of the Dear America books and it works better for some than others.

Re: Dear America

You know I loved that book when I was my daughters age. She has it now and I have actually re-read it several times. I guess for some reason I did not think of that one either. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.

Re: Dear America

"Dear Mr. Henshaw" is another diary-based story. In the YA age group, there's a ton of them. And while it isn't fiction, this is also the age group to start reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" for the first time.

Re: Dear America

Thanks. I really appreciate all the feedback on this. I knew there were books out there like this. I was wondering if any of you had written in this style.

Re: Dear America

Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret wasn't diary based. At least I don't remember it being like that.

But yeah, go to dearamerica.com (it's published by Scholastic) and you can find tons of information.

I don't remember reading any children books that are diary based but from the other response I see there are some out there. I think a diary based children's book is a wonderful idea and I wish you luck.
