I've never been to a conference before, but this one is close to my home and I am kind of curious. Have any of you ever been to it? It is kind of expensive, and I am wondering how useful it would be. They do have a number of small hands-on workshops, which appeals to me more than just sitting and listening to panels does.

Ouch.

I actually think these are good for writers. Unfortunately they are pricey. It is much better when you live in the area and don't need to pay for the hotel.

I think you get out of them what you get out of them. I looked at the ad, and it seemed to me that the additional fee to have your work critted by a faculty member would be especially helpful.

Remember if you make all or part of your income, or expect to make money (I think it is within 7 years, check w/ the IRS) you can take expenses like this, your office space, supplies, and research off as deductions. I believe that some folks fold in conferences with research trips.
