What's the deal with AW and google caches? (member reputation also displays)

So I was randomly googling, and among the search results I found one of my own posts for AW. But you know how Google search results usually have a sentence-length preview of what's to come? Well, instead, it said "Tomothecat is so great that we've run out of appropriate compliments" and "Tomothecat is a candidate for sainthood" which was weird, since I've never read any such comment in my threads. And when I clicked the google link, no such phrase was within the thread. Or anywhere to be found. So I googled "is so great that we've run out of appropriate compliments" and the same sentence reappeared with different AWers names instead of mine.

Did I stumble upon some sort of parallel universe? What's going on?

lol...What is showing up is the 'title' that is given to you by AW. It is found under post. Hold your mouse under the word post...that is under your picture. The 'saying' will show up. I don't know why AW does it, but the more posts you do the different 'saying' will show up.

To expand a little on what CactysWendy posted, with the vBulletin software that is used to run the forum, the administrator has a number of options on how the forum works. One of those is showing a "title" based on the number of rep points a member has received. On some forums this shows up as small colored squares . . . the more rep points, the more squares, and also they change colors, from green to yellow to red, etc. I believe it was discontinued here because they didn't want to encourage people posting things just with the hope of getting more rep point and having the fun of getting more "status squares". Hence, you don't actually see the colored squares here on AW. However, as Cactus mentioned, you can still see the "title" associated with the number of rep points a member has received by holding your cursor right under the "P" in "Posts" beneath their name and avatar. For example "we're run out of appropriate comments" means the member has at least 1000 rep points.

Now, isn't that more that you ever wanted to know?

It's based on rep points. The more you get, the better the compliment.

It took me 10 years to earn enough points for my reputation to say "dpaterso is bland and uninteresting" while you lot are collecting 'em like squirrels collect nuts!

Under your Posts, when I put my cursor there it says: Madison has a spectacular aura.

You really have to wiggle the cursor around a bit and get in it just the right place to get the message to show up.

It all shows when you don't allow images to show. But that is easiest with good browsers -- if you use IE, you have to hunt in some menu somewhere... lol

Sometimes it's not easy to find that hidden hot-spot.

When I moved my mouse arrow under rhymegirl's "Posts: 13,274" her reputation displayed OK (the arrowhead was roughly between the "t" and "s" in "Posts:" and maybe a quarter-inch down).

Ditto with Matera's "Posts: 1,476" (except this time the mouse arrow was roughly between the "o" and "s" in "Posts:" and a quarter-inch down).

But I'm danged if I can find yours when I move the mouse arrow around under your "Posts: 378" -- I gave you a rep point and refreshed the page just to see if that made any different, but--

No, wait! Got it, thar she blows, just under the "P" in "Posts:"

<whew!>

So it's not always in the *exact* same place every time -- but it's around there somewhere. Just gotta move your mouse arrow around a fraction at a time until the info pops up.
