I'll have to vote for Dresden Codak: his epic sci-fi vision, every episode drawn in elaborate murals, is addicting and challenging. The star, Kimiko Ross (portrait with coffee in my Public Profile) is a teenage girl fascinated with physics and robotics, who is called to use her skills when Earth is invaded by time travelers.
A very close runner-up: Goats, another epic but in a funny, Bizarro World vein.
What's your favorite?

Penny Arcade. Nails the pop angst perfectly.

Ditto here. Love Penny Arcade. Actually found out a couple of months ago that my aunt knows "Tycho's" wife in real life; she started telling me about this girl she used to babysit who's husband "actually made a living" from doing some sort of weird comics online. I started laughing. :)

Apologies, admin. DresdenCodak.com
Goats is part of the Dumbrella group, which contains links to the awesome strips Scary-Go-Round, Overcompensating and lots more.
Here's something that just makes me laugh a lot: Wonderella! Root for the lamest superhero of them all. And here's one I fell for recently, called Flaky Pastry. It's about elves in the real world, sort of.
Have fun!

I thought Scary-go-round was on permanent hiatus?

Love her! Have you seen the artist's older strip, Kilroy and Tina? I do not know the linkie. I think it might be moderntales.com archives and all password protected.

No Scary-go-Round is producing new episodes as we speak. I'll check out Kilroy/Tina, good tip! To the googles...

Zap in Space it's an SF epic and you can now buy the first volume book form.

Zap in Space is fun, and it is one of those where the art gets better. A lot better. Though a few notes on anatomy still wouldn't go amiss.

Must confess I'm enjoying Gunnerkrigg Court, clever stuff, cute art, many LOL moments. I'm @ 220 or thereabouts.

Edit: Aaaiiieee! I got to 410 -- there's no more!!

Sluggy Freelance is all kinds of awesome. It's one of those ongoing storyline ones, so you pretty much have to read it from the beginning.
Starslip Crisis is a pretty good sci-fi comic. Mr Jinx is funny as hell. Again, one you really need to read from the beginning.
Basic Instructions is embarrassingly funny, ie - get ready to be embarrassed by your snorts of laughter if you read it in public.
