Newbie here wrote something and need some advice!

My name is Nenane. I don't consider myself a writer. Honestly I don't write well. But I like the idea of writing. Anyway. I wrote a children's picture book with my little sister and I'm wondering if it is any good.

I haven't had anyone edit it because I'm not sure if it should be explored. We actually have 3 more ideas for a "series" of books of sorts. And I'm a little lost with all the writing talk.

Where should I start?

Welcome to AW.

One of the best things you could probably do to get started would be to read the articles by Harold Underdown. You can find them here: http://www.underdown.org/slush.htm

That would give you an idea of the basic dos-and-don'ts. After that, look around the Children's Writing forum and read the threads about picture books.

By the way, forgive my avatar, it's just a little joke. I'm actually an NFL linebacker-sized guy.

It doesn't matter if you don't consider yourself good, everyone here is striving to get better, from the newbies to the pros

Keep writing, ask for advice from others and you WILL get better. You're going the right way already

Writing just takes a lot of practice. Anything worth doing does.

Have a look at the Share Your Work forums for children's books. There, you can post excerpts and have other writers comment on it. If you don't feel ready to show off your work yet, stick around, talk to people, read old posts... there's loads of knowledge here to help you hone your craft

Welcome, Nenane! Where should you start? Start by considering yourself a writer! That has nothing to do with how skilled you are at the moment. It has everything to do with how skilled you intend to become.
