Wow I feel like I'm standing next to a sky-scraper trying to inch my way by the security guard towards the elevator. I think in the end though, he'll force me to take the stairs.
I've finally migrated over from the 'thinking about writing as a career' camp into the, 'alright lets actually go chase it down' end of things. I'm 19, a few years out of high-school and just freshly decided that university is too damn slow and too damn general. I'm aiming to get into writing articles for magazines, and eventually to work my way up to the colossal feat of writing my own fictional novel.
Of all the careers out there, this is the only one that I think will keep me engaged, interested, and probably frustrated all through my life.
To me what is so exciting about turning down this path is how I can learn, and thus write about anything I could care to care about. I don't expect it to be an easy or even cheap trip, and I'm sure I'll need to hold down a part-time job at the very least to pay for my living expenses and all those workshops I'll probably be forced to hit up before my first pay-out.
Nevertheless I'm sure I could use the exercise anyways.
You'll probably see me surface up to start posting in a week or two once I swim through a small portion of the helpful material here.
Wish me luck!
