I just needed a pat on the back because I hit three of my personal goals for my work in progress.

1. I hit the 5000 word mark in just 10 days. That may not seem like a lot to you guys but it was hard for me to accomplish so I am super proud of myself

2. I have improved my writing skills thanks to this forum. Now finding descriptive verbs rather than adverbs is becoming more natural. Still working on the show vs. tell but that too is becoming a bit clearer as I go.

3. (This is my largest accomplishment) I have gained so much more confidence in my writing skills.

Even if I never get a single thing published (which is still one of my goals) I can not begin to thank everyone on this forum enough for helping me grow on my life journey. I only hope that I can pay it forward and I hope that everyone here can give themselves a high five from me for being such awesome human beings!

Congratulations! As GraemeTollins says, the little goals are what matter.

I learned a long time ago that I could make a career our of writing, that I could write short stories, novels, articles, screenplays, poems, and you name it, just by sitting down and writing today.

I can't control what sells, what agents or editors think, or much anything else after I finish and submit a piece. I can't even control what will happen tomorrow. Who knows, an asteroid might strike, or rabbit zombies may overrun the world, but I can control one very small thing. . .I can control what I sit down and do today. This is all it takes.

All right!
And 5000 words is so a big deal.

I've been known to take months to get to 5000 words, so you being able to do it in ten days is fantastic! Good for you. :)

Congratulations! You are on the right track, but never say "even if I never get a single thing published"! Always say "WHEN I get something published". Be positive and you will go from strength to strength with your writing.

Thanks for the kudos everyone! I have learned so much and have made it to the 10,000 word mark of my novella. I love this forum. It is so active and the advice I have received is awesome and motivational. Thanks everyone!

Good for you! Just keep on writing :) Always be proud of what you achieve, even if it's 300 words, or 1000 words or even 10000 words, everything is good, as long as you keep going!

Great job, Svader! I took a bit of a break from AW for a while, writing too, but coming back and seeing a post like this and the support you got definitely puts a bit of wind back into my own sails.

Thanks for sharing with us and keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone! I'm only up to around 13,000 words on the novella but have completed four flash pieces with another one half way done.

Writing has become so freeing to me and I am having so much fun!
