I've published two issues of my seven-issue digital comic series Satanic Hell through Graphicly's multi-platform service and I wrote an article on my website detailing my experience (it's a bit long for a post here). Here's an excerpt from the beginning that summarizes my experience:

"Overall, I like Graphicly, and depending on your needs and goals, it may be the right choice for you. Their new distribution model is still relatively new and given the short amount of time they’ve been doing it, they’re doing a good job. Surely the service will continue to evolve and improve. There’s some things that need tweaking, but I am pleased so far."

I do go into detail about different aspects of the service, including problems and things to consider. I would say the main issue is that despite listing Nook, Google Books, and Kovo as part of their service, books are not being distributed through them at this time. Apparently its an issue with the platforms and Graphicly is trying to work it out with them. So for now, its just Kindle Fire and Apple devices, which are the two biggest market places.

Here's a link to the post. Let me know if you have any questions.

interesting.

thanks for all the usefull info, I'd never heard of these services until you mentioned them. they seem like an interesting possibility for self publishing my wip.(once I get it finished that is.)
do you mind me asking if you managed to break even on the venture? and if so, just how long did doing so take. I realize it will really depend on the comic itself and how well it's marketed as well as numerous other factors, but I'd like to know a bit more about just how much demand there is for comics on mobile platforms.

anyways, thanks for all the info. hopefully they get all those wrinkles smoothed out soon.

Grigoris, thanks for the extremely thorough and honest look into Graphicly. Before you settled on Graphicly what other platforms were you looking at? Was Comixology ever a contender?

Sales reports take at least a month on Graphicly, so I don't know reports for the last issue. Its a big problem that Graphicly needs to figure out. Publishers need quick sales results to measure success of their promotional efforts. The first issue was made free so its had hundreds of downloads. I haven't sold 300 issues yet, so no break even for the service. I don't think I'll be using it for future issues. The real challenge is exposure. A small, devoted fanbase is developing for Satanic Hell, so the goal is still to get more people to take a look.

As far as Comixology goes, after a short experimental phase, they quit accepting submissions. However, that is changing. Starting next year, they will be accepting submissions again and publishing approved, top-quality works for free on their Comixology platform, which is available for Apple, Android, and Windows devices, and Kindle Fire. Great news for creators. You can read my thread about it here.

Hi there. You probably already know this by now but Comixology has open the flood gates for submissions from indy companies and creators.

I submitted a graphic novel to them about 2 to 3 weeks ago but haven't heard anything as of yet. But they have stated that as a result of so many submissions, it may take some time to hear anything.

I thought about Graphicly but the price they are charging is too pricey for what you get, in my opinion.

Hope you keep us posted on how things are progressing on your project, and best of luck with everything!
