I've recently published my first novel after many, many years trying to get to this point. This novel has in fact taken me six years! However, it has spurred me on to keep at it, now that I've finally got work out there. I found Augustus Baltazar difficult to pinpoint a genre for, however I've since discovered urban fantasy, and I can happily say it drops quite nicely in there.
I haven't done a great deal of reading over the years, as I always had a fear of inadvertently copying ideas when I was a kid, but I guess all kids do that, and in some roundabout way it's a vessel for inspiration anyway. So, in short, I stopped reading other work for a while, primarily because I also started trying to reword books as to how I would write it, and I fell out of love.
However, I received a Kindle for my birthday last year, and it got me back in the mood for reading, and ironically actually helped me get back into writing. You can probably thank George RR Martin for that, even though he does write some enormous chapters at times.
So anyway, I thought I'd say hello, and I've stuffed some useful links in my sig for anyone interested in a new author's debut.
No doubt you'll see me around on the board, so hello everyone!
