African wild beast
long, brown antler's feast,
upon Savannah's ground
with every foot pound,
they've taken strides
to outreach the tides.

Earthwatch

Here, now;
embezzeled cries,
and smoke so lorn.

Here, now;
crumbling streets,
where sirens sound.

Here now;
walk and watch,
and watch and see,

pain,
destruction,
terror,
grief,

lapse, in times slow soliloquy.

here
boiling froth through rendered heart
freezing foul lungs filled with curse
tightening lame limbs
loosening welled whims
streaming past pain-pouted puss
drying up dream-danger deals
wetting down stark-sure surreal
freeing some made-up machine
caging the rest of the me

Spanish seas, hear my prayer
I bid fair greeting
Though the times are bare
I traveled mountains, tall and high
From the town of Madrid, Toledo and the land of Samurai
Witnessed have I, the moments of man
From plowing waters to worshiping sand
Here I am
Approaching the blue
With the purpose of sailing
Sailing back to you

or is it
sin of sites?
nonetheless
I would rather

View From Pension Tara

Sleep still red city
dream of infinity in yellow
lights streaming concrete tributaries,
eroding tires and treading over history’s
far-reaching strides.
Take pride in the countryside
retreats, as day-long trips grow steps
closer to city center than the decades before.
Implore the river to divulge its soft whispered secrets,
tales of the taming
of the hills, the spreading fires
into hearths of conglomerated buildings
and advertisements at every kilometer. Streets cobbled
are swallowed by night
but the lamps glow bright,
fueling the drive, ever onward.

(oops, the post before asked for 'pension' -- this doesn't have much to do with ostriches...)

It's at a premium
our freedom

used to be cheap
easy
until the streetlights come on

our rolled up jeans
are getting tight
and walking barefoot in the grass
has a new regulation

Scissors in hand
a clip, clip
to save a penny
maybe two.

Though we thought
never me
time has shown its wisdom
and mum was right
in penny pinching.

Now dark times return
those precious vouchers
waiting for the not so proud
giving them a treat or two.

After a full year’s rest it’s, perhaps, time to resuscitate what was a fun thread.

Scissors

Signing on the dotted line
cut every thing we own,
as surely as your scissors cut old photos.
You gave me my half and kept yours.
Everything divided according to a paper
that sits somewhere, intact,
in a filing cabinet.

A Moments Quest

A blank stare says all
mind in far off lands
on wild adventure
invincible against dark minions
seeking to end the quest
to save the kingdom
from hell’s might.

A nudge wakens
from daydreams grip
returning me
to everyday mundane
minimum wage
to pay the bills.

Eyes closed,
I see summer;
lush gardens full of green.
While seed catalogs on my desk
taunt me.

Science

Is the world round, flat, or square
maybe it depends on the distance
walked from here to there.

Is the world filled with liquid, gas, or metal
maybe it depends on how
you fill the ocean's mettle.

Is the world made of limestone, granite, or shale
maybe it depends on what else is there
like how you work with shovel and pail.

World's filled with oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon
that is what is in the air
and nobody really uses the carbon.

A game I don’t play.
a movie I’ve never seen—
should I ask Santa?

Family Battle

Stomping with joy
find cover
from balls of cold
scoop ammo as you go.

Fresh cotton falls
to attempt to cover
family fun
but the snowman will stand
defiant
as we return to warmth
inside.

Two foot stomp upon trail,
up and down the trestle
not to miss a wooden rail,
ahead of the train's whistle.

Go Kart

Go Kart

I wonder why this ended. Well, maybe we can get it going again. I know I should use "Go Kart," but I'm going to use "whistle."

Whistle

Nobody whistles anymore,
not since Lauren Becall.
"You put your lips together and blow."
Pretty risque at the time.

Nobody says, "risque" anymore,
not since sex tapes made people famous.

I'd love to stand
on a platform in the fog,
wearing a trench coat,
smoking a cigarette
and waiting
for the train's whistle.

Fog

Maybe fog is holy
hiding from us
some of what we'd see
in sun.

Maybe
some not seeing
keeps the eyes
clear for closing
into darkness
so that mystery
can have its sacred
way with us.

Hiding in a forest so blue
touched by the morning's dew
among the evergrowing bamboo
where squirrels play peek-a-boo
bears run hereto and thereto
the mighty eagles always flew
Finally, your lost in own zoo.

signal

they had a tape of the 911 call
a woman pleading for the man to stop
a signal went out to patrol cars
domestic violence in progress

first car arrived 45 minutes later
they knocked on the door
and left after no response

She was found in the bathtup
with the water still running
by family a friend
who slushed through the flooded floors
before finding her
blue cold bloated

don't they have an SOS signal
for calls like these?

something's broken
a combination of
laziness incompetence prejudgment
and a global indifference
of male violence

against women

It was in the news

We have judged the news in our inbox
Found it reeking of incompetent blunders
The man standing in the street red hand
Cruise ship on side drifting in the tide
Hurricane strewn roofs and walls
Woman raped in public venue
Terrorist bomb kills again
Insurgent conclave strafed
Was It Foxx, CNN, MSN or other, who tripped over tongue?
“I said it first” is the thirst
I draw little circles near my ear
Wonder how much I need to know
Of blood trickling down the side of humanity.
