Mr. Grr works in a different city, and is only home on weekends. He just found out that he's not able to come home the weekend the Rains of Castamere airs. Which means I have to wait until the following Thursday night to see it, because this is one of the few shows we absolutely watch together. I am ready to scream! I'm going to have to completely avoid the internet for 4 days so as to avoid spoilers. (Yes, I'm a book reader, so I know what's coming, but there's a lot that's not book related that will be resolved or at least partially answered (Talisa/pregnancy/spy, etc)) So frustrating! Of all the episodes for this to happen to; it has to be the one episode I've been waiting on for at least 5 years!!!

Grra, that sucks! Can't you just have him watch it where he is and you watch it at home? Like... Skype style? :)

Thothguard51 is right; it's not the same. We talked about watching it on Skype together, but decided just to wait. The 4 days off the internet are going to be the hardest part. I spend a lot of time here and on westeros.org in their forums. Since I can't go to either place, I'm going to have to actually work during the day. The horror!! :)

I found a super fun interview on YouTube with cast members of GoT, George R.R. Martin and the screenwriters.
Peter Dinklage is HILARIOUS, everything that man says... Jeez.
Since the interview lasts 1.5 hours (!), it might be a nice substitute for the non-episode during the upcoming, bland two weeks...

I like how Dinklage is basically Tyrion in real life. And George was having some fun. At one point he actually answered a question that came up in the thread, whether he hears the character voices he invented or the actors, and he said he hears his own, original ones.

Can't believe another season's already almost over. Too bad they can't fit a few more episodes in em.

Let's all get in the mood!

The Rains of Castamere

And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

Arya was so close to family. I loved the part where she knocked the pig seller out with a wooden club and the look on the hounds face..."What the..."

The Bran scene where he controlled Hodor and the Dire Wolves, very good. The tower was not exactly like the book, in a lake, but it worked for me.

And boy, did they just shrink the cast for Season Four. At this rate, there won't be any major actors left for season five... But then, season 5 will have a lot of new faces.

So, thoughts on Talisa being a spy? Was that why she looked so spooked, or was it because the bedding ceremony was foreign and a little frightening? If she were a spy, why did she go with Robb at all, knowing what would be in store? Was she an innocent? Was she a spy and betrayed? Does it matter?

I've been waiting for tonight even since the premier. It surprised me when I read the book, and I wondered how it would strike watchers who've not read the books

I was 50+ reading this book. And, in a series stuffed with interesting characters, Arya is my favorite character, rivaled only by Tyrion. She lives a grander adventure than Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn, and she is braver by far.

I've read the books. I knew what was coming. But I still wasn't prepared for Catelyn's scream. Wow. Chilled me to the bone.

Yeah, wasn't in the book I don't believe, but a chilling touch.
You really start to wonder about GRRM's world view. The more noble the character the more likely they are to be betrayed.

I hate that this season is almost up and waiting on book six is painful!

As to Talisia...>>> I don't think she was a spy. IF she was, wouldn't Rose Bolton have gotten her out of there? I think she was a red herring... <<<<

I thought Talisa was a spy too, but now I'm not so sure.

But damn. I didn't read the books but I knew this would happen. Robb broke an oath and he paid the ultimate price. In a nasty, literal cut-throat world, the honorable just do not survive. There is no mercy. It's sad, depressing fact of life. :shrugs:

Sigh. When the opening theme plays next week, I won't be as excited. Oh man...

ETA: On the positive side, wasn't it awesome for Rickon to finally have lines?

Just in time for him and Osha to exit, stage right? ;)

I'll root for: anti-hero Tyrion, Arya, the heroic John Snow, Danerys Storm Born and mother of dragons , Bran (with his increasing powers), an evolving Kingslayer, and surviving Dire Wolves.

And, down the line a bit: the Onion Knight, Brienne of Tarth and Baristan Selmy.

This isn't in a book, so it's not a spoiler: but what are the odds that one day Bran enters the mind of a dragon? And I can certainly imagine dragons melting white walkers.

I think it's less about good people dying and more about people being unthinkingly "good", and about noting that sort of behaviour isn't always sensible, nor is it objectively good. Being honourable doesn't mean doing the exactly right thing at all times even when it's blatantly a stupid decision, but the Starks treat honour like it replaces free will or decision-making, sometimes.

You don't have to do bad things to win, but you do have to remember that your enemies and frenemies will not necessarily be as strongly bound to honour and doing the right thing as you are, and prepare for that.

As far as the episode goes, it felt like it was over in no time at all! Good episode, the RW was really well done, and there was still lots of little things done well. Like getting to see the exact moment Jorah Mormont's heart broke when he returned victorious, only to have Dany ask after Daario.

The reactions by non-book-reading fandom on Tumblr are glorious.

Arrgh, I just can't take it... bawled my eyes out :(

I don't really think this is a spoiler, since the whole "Talisa is a spy" thing isn't in the books, but I'm about to talk about it, so shield your eyes.

I still think it's possible Talisa was a spy, and was just betrayed (although as I said before I don't think there's definitive proof either way and I don't see the point for her to have been a spy after this...who's going to know or care?). She was noticeably pregnant (and there was that big scene where Frey went on about what was under her robe...) and I really don't think Frey gave a crap about whether she was a spy or not... not to mention, if she was a spy, she was a deliberate attempt by the Lannisters to break Robb's vow to marry Frey's daughter, so they weren't likely to reveal that to Frey.
At any rate, she was a symbol and she was carrying Robb's child and I think that was enough for such a vicious and vengeful person.

OK, I can't actually think of anything that happened before that scene. Did they really have to start talking about little Ned? Did they really have to have Catelyn discover the ruse, moments too late?

My heart, it breaks.
