Hi guys, just wondering what your thoughts are on this.

I'm writing a novel titled Song of the Valkyrie.

In it, the main character, Elias, will be separated from the other main character, Signe, during Ch. 2

It is written in the first person, and I have written chapter 3 the same way, through Elias' POV.
I was planning on switching to 3rd for Ch 4 to show what Signe is doing right now, and then having them reunite again later in which it would remain 1st. Would this work? Is it advised? Any suggestions?

I also have a small bit that is a scene from Signe's perspective, 1st person, which is basically just a re-telling of the first scene. This may or may not be deleted entirely but got me wondering if I should do Signe's portions in this way as well.

Thanks!

I'd do either multiple perspectives first person (like Elias and Signe are both in first) or multiple 1 first 1 third (like Elias first, Signe third). I wouldn't give Signe's perspective in both first and third (if that's what you were trying to describe; my brain is a little turned off at the moment)

when you remain in first, are you going to stick with Elias's perspective the whole way through, or are they going to be multiple narrators throughout the story. B/c switching to multiple narrators for a couple chapters and then to only 1 later seems weird to me.

If I were you (warning: my opinion is heavily biased by my preference for multiple narrators :p) I'd keep Signe's first person portions in there.

Thank you for your advice.

What I was saying was that I already had re-written one scene in Signe's perspective 1st person, and I wasn't sure if I should delete that entirely since it was just an experiment.

That portion did however make me wonder if I should do Signe's sections in 1st as well, or just do 3rd as originally planned.

And to answer your question about multiple narrator after they join up again, I'm not so sure at this point.

edit- so, if I do Signe's in 3rd, I will delete the 1st person scene I already have of her.
If I do hers in 1st I may keep it or I may delete it anyway not sure, but I'm not planning on mixing POV

Right, what the other dude said I think.

I'd pick a POV for each character and stick to it. Both in first, both in third, one of each... but don't mix/match POV types with one character.

In my opinion, and obviously it's your story so feel free to ignore me, if it's a first person tale told from Elias' perspective, you shouldn't deviate from that. Stick to his perspective and when Signe isn't around, he just isn't around.

That would be the best way to go, IMO.
