It's been a while since I spent time on AW, and I'm trying to remember if there is a space somewhere devoted to magazine writing for children.

Thanks.

I've done a couple of non-fiction articles for some children's magazines, and now I'm looking to submit a couple of fictional short stories -- stories that in an earlier time would have (in my opinion) made great longer picture books. But that no longer seems to be an option in today's publishing world, although I absolutely love reading 2-3,000 word picture books to my kids that have more complex language but stories appropriate for younger listeners.

Anyway...I have a couple of stories that are between 1,000 & 2,000 words that I'm thinking of submitting to Spider or Cricket, since that's about all I can find that accepts longer stories. Apparently there used to be quite a few online literary magazines that would take longer stories, but they all seem to be out of business.

Does anyone have experience with these magazines, or know of others I should be considering that I'm not aware of?

There is an online listing of mags for kids, but I don't have it bookmarked and it's not coming to me. You can also check Magazine Markets for Children's Writers pubbed by Writers' Institute Publications. Some public libraries have it.
It's hard to give a more specific suggestion without an age group and genre.
