Anyone published and hired someone to do the cover for their ebook? I need two done, something like the Potter covers in style, or Quentin Blake, basically two or three characters in colour, a background with the title at top and author name at bottom. Any suggestions or examples would be great.

Look through this site to get some idea's. http://selfpubbookcovers.com/index.php They're premade but if you want to go a cheaper route than having one custom made for you, it's not too bad (they're all one of a kind, they take them off once they sell). I don't know how many kidlit covers they'll have but you might be able to find one that works perfect, you never know. They also have the option of requesting a custom cover if you find an artist you like, not sure how much that cost though.
Oh and the pictures they show have "suggestions" for how and where you put author name and title but you can do anything you want with it. Just click on the picture and you can play with it. Super easy.

I think this site is kind of fun and there are some decent covers. Might be best to go with an established artist, but it's an option and it's always good to keep your options open.

If you want someone with that kind of pro quality you might try an illustration agency like Plum Pudding or Bright, or look in to college courses - Anglia Ruskin has an excellent children's book illustration course which produces a lot of good young illustrators, whom you might be able to approach for a few pieces of art.

If you see a book cover you like, you can usually find out who drew it via the back cover or (c) page, and most people will have a website or other way to contact them. They're generally quite approachable.

You will have to pay pro rates, though! Don't expect it to be cheap.

Here's a site with samples. http://www.licwi.org/art-gallery.html
Disclaimer: I'm on the board of the organization but not an illustrator myself. I can vouch for the professionalism and skills of most of these artists.
