I have three dogs... teach me!! ;)

I used to work in customer service (answering phones) but that was soul sucking work that will make you hate everything, including puppies and rainbows. I left to write and my husband supports us. I'm a lot happier now, even though we halved our income. :)

Just grab some scissors and start cutting! Lol... kidding, don't do it. What kind of dogs do you have? I love, love, love doggies and am glad, if I have to do something other than writing, that i get to work with them everyday! It's hard work but it's very rewarding. :) I have 5 of my own and people always look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that, haha.

Haha I looked on Youtube for grooming tips and got scared when they said things like "Shave along here but if you cut this, your dog will die." I have three shih tzus! (Thank goodness they're small or I'd be totally outnumbered... at least this way I can pick them up and move them around when they get too ornery!)

Holy cow I can't imagine having 5 dogs, just my 3 keep me busy enough! What kind of dogs do you have?!

Haha, I've looked at grooming on youtube out of curiosity and some of the videos are pretty funny. As someone who kind of "fell into" grooming, once you get over the fear of thinking you're going to hurt your dog it's not all that hard to learn (if your dog is good for grooming, that is) but it does take a lot of practice. I love shih tuzs! I have two scotties, two wiener dogs and one scottie weenie mix. I think it makes a big difference when they are all small, lol.

I am currently a 911 telecommunicator.

Respect. I dispatched for a year so I know how hard and stressful it can be. Especially if you get the misfortune of being the only one attached to the shift(like I was).

So. Freakin'. True.

I work for a huge city, too. I love my job, but it's so scary at times. I don't dispatch, but I can imagine how difficult that would be. It's nice to run into someone on this forum who understands!

I worked in a pharmacy for a while (granted, as a cashier) and the exposure to the wide range of human characters was extremely helpful. Plus, if you ever need to know anything about medication, you're already that much further ahead in your research than someone like me would be.

True! And you can come across a lot of interesting, cool names that people have. I used to be a pharmacy tech. Now I'm a grad student.

Okay, that's pretty funny because I thought that I was the worst ever. I've gotten to the point that I tell everyone at work that too. I think they believe I'm joking.

I work in government in IT (software specifically). It is a soul-sucking, thankless job from which there is no escape. Hence, I write.

I am a student, marketing trainee, occasional freelance editor, and author. I'm in school to be a teacher, but now I'm at the point where I really just want to do some editorial type work on a magazine around here. I'm going to give my apprenticeship a chance, but being a teacher isn't my dream job.

I'm a college sophomore majoring in econ & chinese and I work part time in the school library (it's the nicest job). Idk what I'll do when I graduate, tho. I'd be okay with being a teacher, especially if I could teach abroad for a bit.

I babysit. Only in Manhattan is babysitting less of an after-school job and more of a viable career option, hahaha. But it's three kids (2, 5, and 7) and I only have to work M-Th, 2-8, so it's a pretty ideal schedule to write around. I've also done dog walking and worked as a barista in the past.

I am a graduate student doing Medieval Scandinavian and Viking Studies in Iceland and in August finishing the degree up in Norway...I did want to be a history professor when I started the program but have since found writing research papers is just not my thing. I also just started doing marketing and copywriting for my sister's fairytale app company....http://fairytale-studios.com/ if anyone is interested!

I'm a freelance advertising designer. My favorite thing to do is write copy (love those clever headlines...shock!) but out of necessity and education, I've become pretty proficient at the visual side of things, too.

I used to work at a small, locally owned agency but quit right before it went bankrupt. Thankfully, I was able to secure a client and I've managed to grow my little freelancing business from there.

It's all modest work and I wouldn't be able to make a living that way without my wonderful husband. He makes most of our money--by a long shot, lol--and has supported my writing ever since I gathered the courage to tell him I wanted to give it a try <3

southbel, I believe you just called me the worst!

My job is actually pretty OK. I only work 10-15 hours a week, which is basically my ideal life. Seriously, my modus operandus is to do as little possible + enjoy life!

Weirdly, last year I was working full-time for a men's magazine and then a music magazine (which you would think as a writer, I would love) and I legitimately hated it. They had me writing stuff like Rihanna’s Top Ten Songs + How to Avoid Frostbite + you have to stay on voice and message + we worked in a big, soulless building with dozens of other mags –plus the pay was so bad (about 20k/year) and the music mag (which has been around for, like, 50+ years) was super tense because their sales are just awful. I basically decided that I really wanted to make a proper go at being a novelist and I felt like I couldn’t do that and stay afloat as a journalist, so I left it all behind to become a tax consultant, lol! I know-I know- a total cliché ; )

Canada. Probably.
I have a regular full-time gig as the art lady at a day camp two months a year...and cobble together what I can the rest of the time. Babysitting, dishwashing, housepainting, cooking for teenagers on a tugboat-turned-pirate-ship (that gig didn't last long, but it makes me sound cool, so I always mention it in any instance where nobody's going to check my references). I'm going to school for early childhood education in September, so I can theoretically have a career or something.

Teaching English as a foreign language at a school that I can literally point at from my balcony door (60 second walk to work!). Finish at 3pm at the moment too, which is nice. Despite that... I hate it. Can't wait to change to something else, I want to write, but teaching grammar all day sucks the soul out of you and I never want to write, which is a shame as I'm so close to finishing my book.

I have two main sources of income.

For the past seven years, I've been working for my best friend's indie publishing company. In many ways, the job is great. I'm immersed in all aspects of book creation and I love that. I also get paid very well. However, when my friend and I have conflict within our friendship, it spills over into work. That's frustrating.

I also write, record, and sell guided meditations. Creating and recording the meditations is really enjoyable and fulfilling. The other stuff--Web site maintenance, working with graphic artists, certain aspects of marketing--aren't as enjoyable.

A huge part of me wants to just write fiction so I can immerse myself into a world in which I'm focused on characters and telling their story. The other part of me, the part that has a million different interests and passions, wants to always have many projects in the works and more than one source of income.

I am a work from home transcriptionist. It keeps me busy most of the day, but when there is a lull in the work, I can get a bit of writing done.

Well, in addition to being a full-time student (studying mass communication and film), I'll be a sales associate at Banana Republic. I like clothes and fashion.
