Maybe that's because I like "big secret" plots. As long as it's a good secret (like "I'm actually a girl.") and there's a good reason to keep it. Then there's suspense as we wait for the moment the big secret comes out and how it will affect their relationship. It had better have a big effect though. If I've been biting my nails for 200 pages wondering what the fallout is going to be, there'd better be something more than "it doesn't matter." It doesn't have to be super dramatic "we're breaking up I never want to see you again" type of fallout, but it should have some effect. :D

I like the "Scarlett Pimpernell" type of trope, where the hero is pretending to be an incompetant bumbling fop, but he's really ALPHA MAN! And they're thrown together somewhat.

Bonus points if ALPHA MAN! Is a pirate whose seducing her too and has ANGSTY PANTS because she thinks FOP BOY is nice and he gets jealous of himself!!!!

I like secret love. I've seen this in Bollywood movies where the girl falls in love with a guy but her parents have an arranged marriage all set up for her with a different guy.

Usually the guy that she is supposed to marry isn't some godawful monster but he doesn't really care either way. He's just doing it to keep his parents happy. Or he finds out and helps the girl be with the guy she actually loves.

I love friends to lovers, enemies to lovers (especially if one never really considered the other an enemy) and older brother's best friend stories.

And yeah--I could still go for the amnesia trope if it was handled well. :)

I like some of the worst, and overused ones. Friends (or enemies) to lovers. Amnesia. Forced marriage. They can be horrible stories. But if done well, so much fun to read.

LOL! Hells yeah! I love these kinds of stories too - where the guy has a secret identity or is just not what he seems. The dramatic irony and sexuial tension is usually up to 11, and revelations can be all kinds of fun because you never know which way she's gonna go when she eventually finds out :D

I guess it's why I love the Lois and Clark TV series so much - the Lois/Clark/Superman love triangle was brilliant! Kinda went down hill after she found out though... :(

On a beach, of course.
I love reading disguised identity stories, forced/arranged marriage, and fated lovers who can't stand each other.

I'm about to start writing a story about "brother's best friend," but instead of always liking him, she's always hated him. And vice versa. And I mean they HATE. EACH. OTHER.

Should be fun. :evil

I like heroes who have issues due to their highly melodramatic childhoods.

I also like secret identities, amnesia, arranged marriages, and house parties.

Is "hero is rich" a trope or cliche? Billionaire is a bit ridiculous, but I mean more along the lines that he is a nobleman and any woman who married him would never have to work or scrimp and sacrifice to make ends meet. I was reading a story today where the two main characters were both poor and in heartbreaking bad situations that a few thousand dollars would have gotten them both out of. Reading that was making me really depressed.

Beach Girl,
I love those types of stories.

SunandShadow,
I'd probably not read through. I hate depressing--especially in romance! :(
