That reminds me - in the paper the other day, there was a 2-page spread on gothic fashion. Is goth "in" this year?

The model didn't look too happy about wearing goth stuff though. :tongue

Either that or she thought all goths look mildly irritated all the time.

I have a sad story. I investigated a fire the other night which involved a feline fatality. The fire turned out to be accidental. I felt very bad for the owner of the cat. Having to tell someone that their pet didn't make it is difficult. Investigating fires with pet fatalities is emotionally tougher than people realize. Even if it turns out to be an accident.

It was the wee hours of the morning when I got home. My cats were waiting for me by the door. (They always do when I get called out to investigate something in the middle of the night.) I gave them all a hug. And catnip.

Brady, so sorry. It's the first thing I think of when there is a fire or a storm.

This won't help with the investigation part, or the animals who didn't make it. There's nothing for that. But, since you've got kids to grab too, this might make your cats a little safer. Have you thought of training them to go into their carriers on command? (treats work well for this.)

If they get along you could use two large carriers.

I didn't do it, never thought of it until current kitty. When the dog says run and hide she does. Which is good for burglars but not fires.

When the weather alarm goes off she runs into her carrier and waits to be carried to basement. We've done it enough in her short life that she's figured out the alarm and the pattern.

She sleeps in her carrier and gets a handful of dry food and 6 treats to make going to bed more fun.

Wow. That's a good idea. I never thought of that for dogs or cats. I could see the benefits for all sorts of emergencies.

My local PBS station is showing documentaries on the Battle of Shiloh this evening on their second channel. Seems like they're about a month late.

Better late than never! At least they are showing a Civil War program......which is something the History Channel seems unable to do.

Some will train and some won't. As many as you can get in the box in an emergency the better.

I had one that went straight up the wall or the nearest tall person when the tornado sirens went off. (Happy to be short.)

Sweet Gum trained herself. Okay, the dog, who believes in going to the basement when it rains, more when it thunders and should already be there before the alarm goes off, trained her and that always works easier than people doing it.

It takes bags of treats and tons of patience. I don't have much patience, but I do know that cat training can require fried chicken livers. Some find it best to get double or triple orders, some find the need to help the cat eat the treats.

The local channel has been showing a lot of stuff on the Civil War throughout the 150-year anniversary. The library and state museum have also had some special exhibits.

Every time I have to take her to the vet it requires pre-planning six days in advances.

Well, when you're taking her to the vet you're thinking vet and hospital and all that smelly scary stuff. You aren't thinking there is danger and I'm taking you to a safe place.

Even for the vet, unless she's going in for surgery, treats in the box before you shove her in. Sometimes the treats distract the cat and you only get scratched a little. Particularly if the treats are chicken livers or tuna.

If you give her sardines you'll need to tell the vet. At least we did with the dog. He was going in for surgery so his treat before the don't eat after was sardines. This had a strange effect on his blood panel. Apparently sardines aren't recommended for dogs. Dog said that was a terrible lie, sardines were excellent for dogs.

I felt like an elephant today when I was in the clothing shop. They didn't seem to have much in XXL-Tall.

I tried to be helpful. While my friend was trying on things I waited outside the stalls and would offer my opinion to the other women there trying on things.
