Sassy, that's excellent. You seem to be sliding back into the writing groove.
I refuse to get worried or upset over the many problems this stupid bathroom renovation is revealing or causing. Since every day there's some new uh-oh, this seems the wisest policy. They'll fix it, whatever it is. When the renovations are complete, you are all invited over for a bath, how's that? (The tub is seriously deep!)

No need to duck from me, Maryn. I've always thought it strange that we have a tendency to look down on our British cousins for having official royalty while we ourselves make unofficial royalty out of politicians and entertainers.

Good morning, everyone. I can't believe how severely I overindulged for Mother's Day. Not only is Mr. Maryn's idea of a small steak about double mime (yes, I ate every bite), but there was a cake and it's gone. Completely gone, with only three people.
Cold and dark and windy today. Mr. Maryn thinks it's silly for me to bring in firewood, but I'm going to anyway. We might as well use it tonight, when the temperature will be in the mid-thirties.
Know what's neat? There's more coffee.

And the law of averages exerts its might. I got all fancied up for brunch with a friend, who just canceled. Maybe I'll take myself out for coffee. Hate to waste makeup and decent clothes, you know.

So, I know it's old hat to ask but what's everyone working on. I haven't written in ages. Shame on me. I hope I will have the time to start again when I'm in California. Shorter workdays and I'll actually have two full days off. It also helps not to work where you live.

I'm in a motel room in Albany, where the channel guide has lied to me--lied, I tell you!--about the availability of HBO and Showtime. Not that it's a big deal, I guess. Once we open a bottle of wine, whatever's being broadcast will be adequate.

Well, sass, what I intended as a lost heir story is turning into cultural adaptation, thanks to a crafty prince and his talented cousins. I think it might be a better story than what I originally intended.

why I'm not complaining
But it is kinda hellish
4 hour flight
6.5 hour layover in China
12 hour flight
6.5 hour layover in LA
1 hour flight
and then I will eat dinner with Russ and possibly pass out for 3 days
And this is where she'd like dinner from, and she shall have what she wants waiting for her when she lands... amazing sandwiches!
I know, I know, I really could go fancier than sandwiches for dinner her first night back, but that's what she wants. She's heard me ohing and ahing about their food for months and developed a craving. Lucky guy...cheap date, lol.

Hello from Boston. Kid Two's now just another master's degree dude with no job.
And we're proud of him anyway. Today we're spending the afternoon as far from colleges as we can. Seems like all 500 have their big commencement ceremonies today, and the crowds and traffic are pretty bad. We intend to go to the Fenway Park area, where there's only one college and lots of places to get lunch which won't be crowded because the Red Sox are on the road.

Just remember: if it were 200 years ago, you'd be sitting on a pile of straw teeming with someone else's lice, and eating whatever slop the innkeeper managed to throw together for you. And you'd be kept awake all night by the shouting and fighting in the bar.
I guess that last isn't so different from today after all.
