Her Majesty's 69th Hugging Regiment

May I borrow them when Junely's done? I could really use a hug or 2... or 2 dozen at the moment.

And, from the Holy Crap, How Can People Suck So Much Files comes the story of my lazy coworker complaining about the woman who just came back from multiple surgeries and two rounds of chemo. She doesn't think our newly-returned coworker is working hard enough "to earn her keep". This statement actually stunned me speechless.

What in the mother-F'ing name of... I got nothing. How about performing a few surgeries and some elective chemo on that heartless coworker?

Not sure how much more of this I can take.

Fortunately, I am sure of how many of these I can give: *:Hug2: x 1 quadrillion*.

Unrelated, I've started looking for a new job. The results are so far disheartening. I've been a professional journalist for 10 years, an editor for 8.5 of those and a website manager and designer for 6 of *those.* Apparently none of these are marketable skills...

Eeek. :Hug2: Best of luck with that- here's hoping you land an awesome job and soon.

ION, something outside is causing me to sneeze my head off. I wonder if coffee will fix this problem?

Depends on where you apply the coffee :D

Though, some of my favorite people are "sidekicks."

Maximum ditto.

This is a total unimportant and massively embarassing/shameful nerd-out moment for me but I need to express some kind of joy about it and I can't do it out loud. I'll put it in small inviso-text so you don't have to read my nerd-out.

Holy crap, I just got the luckiest draw I've ever gotten on my emulated Yu-Gi-Oh game! I had 'Dark Magician' and 'Chaos Command Magician' on the field, right? I'd just added another monster called 'Sorcerer of Dark Magic' to my deck, and the only way you can summon it is by tributing 2 level 6 or higher monsters... both of which those two on the field were. I never thought I'd get to use it! It's the strongest monster in my deck and it stops my opponent using Trap cards (which this one always does as part of his strategy) and it was the perfect moment to get it... and I did!

Okay, I'm done. *smiles sheepishly* Moving on...

Okay, so can someone a little less paleolithic than me please give some tech recommendations for keeping an audio diary?

Can't have everything in life, but ideally I wanna be able to:
>Record with a minimum of daily setup/preparation- initial set-up is fine, daily duties would erode my willpower too much
>Store entries indefinitely while taking up a minimum of data space/physical space
>Preferably store in a way that can't be erased, copied, or edited as easily as files on data sticks or external hard drives can

I've never heard of an audio diary. But if you're looking for a way to record your voice, I would recommend looking up Audacity online. It's the recording program I use to do audio with. It's free, it's easy to use, it's free. It will not record in MP3 format without a patch, but the patch is free, too, and takes about thirty seconds to download and install, easy peasy.

If you're using a laptop, it probably has a built in mike, so no worries there.

MP3's don't take up that much space. But you can always get a Dropbox account. For the smallest storage (2 gigs) it's free, accessible from anywhere in the world. If I understand correctly, it is a cloud server set up, which means it's not going to crash anytime soon, and is as safe from hacking as a normal person could reasonably expect.

Doctor Who series finale tonight! *squees with nerdish delight* I'm ashamed that this slipped my mind until just now.

Also I just reserved a book to read before the film adaptation of it comes out specifically because two actors I kind of love and one I kind of like are in said adaptation. This makes it the 2nd time one actor has made me start reading a book/series just so I can be spoiler-free when I see him in the adaptation.

It helps that the premise intrigues me, too. But even if it didn't... awesome actors! I really need to stop watching things just because cute men are in it, it's really not helping to alleviate the idea that I'm some kind of boy-crazy lunatic.

I mean I am that but I don't want people thinking I am. :D

I've got a netbook. Yeah, netbooks have built-in mics, but they're terrible compared to the ones in a laptop- all that hardware crammed into such a small space creates some really nasty unavoidable screeching which isn't solved by muting or disabling the built-in speakers. Or maybe I've just dropped poor Quetzal one too many times.

But really, I guess my question is offline storage options- recalling that I will probably not have internet at home any time in the next couple of years. Far as I know even the cheapest and oldest models of mp3 player have a voice record function, but storing much of anything on the hard drive is a pain on a netbook- technically it's got about 300gb of data space, but if you fill more than a fourth or so of that you start having problems.

I wonder about maybe zipping them. Bleh, I hate doing that.

Sorry. After losing too much work to unpredicted hardware crashes, I don't use flash drives anymore. Burn them to CD, maybe?

Again, netbook- no slot to even put a CD in.

Again, I recommend Dropbox. It has an optional feature where it places a folder on your computer. That folder has all your files in place, they can be accessed offline, and any changes you make will be synched to the online storage as soon as you're online again.

I love dropbox.

Morning all! My house is clean...er. Time for some writing.

And adding a second rec for Dropbox, but read Bettie's blog post and take care if you use it with Scrivener. She had a major issue with it. :(

Hey Junely... what's the link to your audio drama again? I find myself with the onerous chore of folding heaps of laundry. I figured I might as well give my ears a treat...

The general website is here.

The site for Blackburn Gaslight Adventures is here.

The site for Act of God (the audio with our own Ace Tachyon as the hero. Or villain. it's complicated) is here.

PLEASE tell me what you think!

I am downloading them to my iTunes as we speak. :D Now to find time between all the other stuff I've got demanding my attention to actually listen to them. That's gonna be the tricky bit.

ION: I just made an impulse buy... I should get someone to keep away from online shopping sites when I'm hyped up over something awesome, so I don't randomly decide to, for example, buy a big Doctor Who book on account of the 50th Anniversary.

Because I totally just did that without even thinking about it...

I'm now picturing my aunts (even the fake ones) as writers of erotica... and I'm pretty sure that thought will prevent me ever getting an erection ever again.

Ah, come on! We're all grown-ups, besides, it has not being the most compromising bit of her I have seen.

Lol, I walk in at the best times.

Shall I tell the tale of when my dad spent 4 hours chasing a starling around the house in his underwear on Boxing Day morning?

I wish I had an aunt like that.

Well, just having an aunt would be nice.

Familial hint: Never be the single child of two single children.

Anyway, I applaud your aunt Max, she sounds like a helpful person to have around for your writing.

Well, that covers most of the details. Unless it includes slapstick moments of tripping up, or falling over things I don't think we need any more.
