Thanks inkspatters. I hope the fact that it is shorter will make editing a whole lot easier this time around. Last time it took around five months of rewriting before the whole thing was finished. But I planned this one a bit better so at the very least I won't need to worry too much about the plot not making sense.

Hope you have a relatively painless editing experience, dinosaur.

American twifties, could someone fill me in on what kind of GPA someone would need to get into a college that's reasonably prestigious (but not Ivy League level)? MC is college bound and stressed, and I know the feelings there, but am a bit iffy on specifics of the American system.

The tricky thing is there are a lot of other factors involved: ACT scores, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, sports, etc. Here are some stats that might help.

University of Michigan
Michigan State University
Try this website too. It has a lot of statistics, including the percentage of students admitted within a certain GPA range (for colleges that report that).

HR! Long time no see! :)

A significant portion of students opt to take the SATs instead of the ACTs, so that's something to consider as well. The application process also involves writing personal statements, and some colleges will have optional essays too.

So I've started writing something sort of strange. Think modern!AU of Game Of Thrones meets Pretty Little Liars. And a lot of parties.

Thanks, HR! Very useful :)

Also good to know, deltay! I totally thought the SAT was standard just b/c it was what I took when I was considering doing Uni stateside.

I think MC is the type to have standardized testing and essays down, but she's super lazy so her overall grades will be low. Hmm.

Tally, that sounds really cool!

I took the SAT and did well. Most people still take the SAT. They say the ACT is considered equally, but it's actually not by a lot of liberal arts schools, because the SAT is a test on how you think and the ACT is a test on what you know. Most of what is asked on the ACT is stuff you're supposed to have learned in school, and there's a science section on it, while the SAT is all about trying to trick you and ask you strange questions and has an IQ component, so a lot of prestigious liberal art schools prefer the SAT because it has a reputation of being more 'intellectual', whatever that means.

I say this as the same type of person as your MC. My standardized test scores are really high and my essays tend to be great, but my homework... never... ever gets done.

Thanks! It's really fun. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to contextualize families being sworn enemies and having heirs and obsessing over who marries who in modern society, but... I'll figure it out!

Thanks, Lisa :) I could send you a bit of it if you like. I've only got about 1000 words so far, but I have my nice spreadsheet plot all ready to go.

I'm going to say yes to that.

Sadly, I don't think I have any to send back to you that you'd want to read.

I just finished writing the first draft of a book.

FINALLY.

After about four or five years of (serious) writing, I finished something. In two months, too, so that's pretty good for me.

Congratulations! What's your book about? I finished a first draft too a few days earlier, and I'm putting it aside for a while before I start editing it. Do you prefer to start editing right away, or wait?

Ooh, thanks for that info about the SAT and ACT, Tally. I'll look into that a bit more. I remember thinking the SAT was super straight forward when I took it (briefly considered going to Uni in the US), but maybe my brain is super weird, lol.

Taylor, CONGRATS!

The SAT is pretty straightforward if you know the pattern of the exam. It's pretty predictable as well.

Bee! I've been good, although I haven't really been hanging out on TWFT until pretty recently. How are you?

Dino, thanks :)
