I just noticed this thread lying all dusty and tangled in a corner. I think all my 'History' friends in here probably already know but, for those who don't, JMS Books published 'Cawnpore' at the end of February. It's a standalone novel set in the Indian Mutiny/insurrection but it follows the narrator of 'The White Rajah' after he leaves Borneo and makes his way to India.

I'm quite pleased with it. If you do read it, can you post a review somewhere and let me know.

Thanks.

Less than 2% sell ovver 500 - but mine did! Woogoo!

How fun to be able to write this... I read once that only 2% of all books published sell over 500 copies...

My first novel, AN INVOLUNTARY KIGN: A TALE OF ANGLO SAXON ENGLAND has sold many more than 500 in spite of its sticker shock papaerback price... Mostly ebooks, but who cares?

And now it has garnered an honor, the IndieBRAG Medallion!

I would write if I sold fewer and didn't get the honors, but it sure is encouraging. I now have three books in print.. and one almost read to go find a publisher... gotta good lead, and no, I won't share it. heh

Home - but for how long?
Just to add.

I read Tom's novel. It's good and well worth a read. Takes you into India and gives a good impression of what the seige was like.

My turn to dust down the thread.

Two reasons to celebrate:

1. Just completed the first draft of my new WIP.

2. Next week I will be subbing my Roman spy thriller Talons to the Historical Novel Society's Unpublished Novel comp.

I guess I can finally post something newsworthy.
My first historical novel is available now to VIP customers on the TEB website and will be on general release at the beginning of October.

Hi everyone,

I haven't ventured into this part of AW before, but when I saw this thread I wanted to introduce myself to all my fellow historical fiction writers. :) My current good news is I have 5 fulls out on my querying novel, and I'm almost finished with a detailed outline of my new WIP (I'm on chapter 4 of that, draft-wise). Hopefully I'll have good news from an agent to post soon!

It's great to see your historical fiction success stories -- very inspiring!

Cheers,
Stella

I just realised that 'The White Rajah' is in that 2% as well. Makes me feel better at a point where the whole awfulness of getting from typescript to publication is getting me down.

You mean this one? :D

Rumor has it GJB did win--best published historical in 2012! He's still over that big moon of a couple weeks ago! This journey does have some high points....Here's the link for anyone who wants to know more: http://www.sdbookawards.com/2013/06/24/2013-san-diego-book-awards-ceremony-gallery/ You'll see his cover behind him in several of the photos--"South of Burnt Rocks".

She hasn't been here for a while, but I'm sure many of the old timers remember Jessica Brockmole (PastMidnight here).

Her debut, LETTERS FROM SKYE was just released this week (Random House/Ballantine). Jessica got a starred review from PW and a glowing one from Kirkus:
By turns lyrical and flirtatious, Brockmole’s debut charms with its wistful evocation of a time when handwritten, eagerly awaited letters could bespell besotted lovers.

Definitely a success story here!
