My boss has given me a copy of an old film as an AVI file. Is there a way of getting it to play on a dvd player? Any help appreciated especially if it's explained with small words.

You just need to find a way to convert the avi to .vob

I've used DeVeDe before and it worked alright- can create menus and everything

here's a youtube video. Linux, but process is the same for windows.

Depending on the make of your DVD player, it may be able to play an avi without your doing anything to it. I've had a successions of machines from Philips that all play avi files out of the box (either on a disk or on a USB stick), and a lot of low-end generic-type machines do too. Some brands aren't as format-friendly, though. Check on yours before you jump through hoops - you may be lucky!

I was hoping that was the case, but it doesn't recognise the file, sadly. I'll download Dvd Flick now.

Thanks for the help, all. :)

I tried DVD Flick but it didn't work so I went with DeVeDe and that worked without a problem. Got me my old horror film on dvd. Hurrah.

Thanks, again.

I’ve used two methods. Windows DVD Maker accepts .avi and several other Windows formats.

I also used Freemake’s Video Converter program because it accepts more than just the Windows formats. In particular it accepts .mp4 formats. I especially like that because that’s the YouTube format I like to select to when I download YT videos.
