What do you use to write and where?

I use Open Office Word for my writing. I also carry a small notepad and pencil with me when I am going to be out for a while so I can make notes and jot down ideas before I forget them.

Q10. It's nothing if not clean. Usually I work in bed, but I have discovered the joys of the new (at least, created since I moved out of my old apartment across the street in 2005) laptop room at the library. I don't know if they lend laptops, but there's ample space, lots of outlets, WiFi -- though that last is kind of a mixed blessing for a writer.

My girlfriend got an AlphaSmart years ago, but neither of us has any use for it now. I can see it from where I'm sitting. I hope the data on it can be retrieved, because I have a good chunk of a story on it.

I like writing in a coffee shop or cafe. I feel like using their space means I can't do anything but write write write. (Or edit edit edit.) Plus if I pick a place that doesn't have internet I'm cut off from any possible distractions.

I wrote my manuscript on spiral-bound notebooks, which was great because I could do it anywhere. I'm working on my WIP on my laptop, which isn't as much fun and isn't as convenient, but I feel like I've got a good flow and don't want to mess with it.

LibreOffice Writer (formerly Word 2003) on my desktop in the dining room. I back up to my flash drive every one or two writing sessions. I back up on DVD-R whenever I happen to be backing up videos or music or whatever.

I just use Word 2010, while at home, before going to sleep. After some time I acquired the habit of only having good ideas between 8 to 10 p.m

Believe it or not, I write at work (I know, shame on me!) But i work long hours (by my choosing) so I have the flexibility of slacking off for a little bit during the day. It helps me out because I work in a cube in front of a monitor all day so it's very easy for me to switch to word and type up some of my story lol.

I began electronic paperless grading in '88. "The dog ate my paper" segued into "The dog chewed my floppy disk."

I switched to a laptop in '05 and haven't looked back. It travels in a security backpack with an a/c and auto charger, so I edit and write anywhere and everywhere.

I edit in my client's word-processing program, but I write in WordPerfect. When inspiration hits while engaged in other computer work, quick notes can be jotted on WP's lightning feature.

Although, I have also been known to email myself a scene, typing on my iPhone. It's slow, but it gets the job done.
