I've had a few complaints that the ordinary CAPTCHA is "annoying" on my WordPress blog... :e2paperba

Well, I just found one that might not be. It's called "Sweet Captcha". I just installed it so don't have any feedback yet, but it seems neat (if not super serious).

If you'd like to take a look just go to my blog... or google "Sweet Captcha".

Ha ha, are you aware that we have an AW member named "Captcha" - so the title of this thread, "A less obnoxious CAPTCHA" made me laugh

And yes, I find those word things irksome on blogs. :)

Oooo, I like that one, I may have to use that instead of the math thingy one I've got.

I like it a lot, just be wary that it doesn't degrade gracefully for users without Javascript enabled. So about 1% of readers (or more or fewer depending on your audience) won't be able to get past it.

Julia: I love that! I've always found captcha's to be so ridiculous in their look to the point of being useless. I enjoyed your blog, by the way!

Dumb question time: could you tell me how you attached that captcha to your comments block? I've searched and went through Wordpress and can't figure it out!

Thank you, contrariwise! I'll certainly *ahem* figure it out. (I'm new at all this.)

Do you know how to install a plugin on Wordpress? You log in and go to your dashboard. Then go to Plugins -> Add New. Type the words "sweet captcha" in the search field. Then click "Install Now." Afterwards it will tell you it's installing and ask you if you want to activate it. Click "Activate."

Then you can go to Plugins on your dashboard to find the settings for it.

Oh I like it. I'd much rather use that than the kind that looks like letters on an acid trip.

Rats. There is no "Plug-in" on the Dashboard after I've signed in. I've snooped around in Wordpress, and there's a comment that most blogs don't have that capability. In Wordpress site for the Sweet Captcha page, it only states: "Install and activate", but doesn't say HOW.

Oh wait, are you not on a self-hosted site? If your site is hosted at Wordpress.com, you won't be able to install any plug-ins and so you can't control your Captcha. You need to have your own hosting with a Wordpress blog on it in order to install them.

It's hosted at Wordpress. Glad to know I'm not totally stupid. I've saved Sweet Captcha as a favorite, so if I ever self-host, I'll have it! Thank you for all your time.

I don't mind that one. I have one installed on my site (suspendedearth.com) which is a 4 piece slide puzzle. You can add your own images to it - I keep meaning to put my book covers into it. It works verry well for people on smart phones and the like, which yours would too.
