Does anyone know if this is a no-from-one-means-no-from-all agency?

All the sources I've seen on this agency show only the single e-mail address for submissions. In fact, the entire website is just one page that clicks to the e-mail link. I'm assuming if the different agents (Publishers Marketplace mentions Cheryl Pientka and Katelyn Detweiler) had separate access, somebody would mention it.

Maybe somebody else has more information.

I just emailed a query and think I have a problem! I use a Mac and my file was .docx.

The auto-reply from the agency says:

For all inquiries regarding representation, if you have not done so
already, please email your original query with the first 50 pages of
your manuscript or proposal attached as a Microsoft Word .doc so that
we may best evaluate your submission. Please do not email .docx or
.rtf files. Please do note that we receive many queries, and we
endeavor to respond to each as promptly as is possible.

I use Microsoft Word and I'm certain that the file will be okay. Should I send another file right now?

What would you do?

Thanks

Well, my husband said to resend now, so I did.

If you're on a Mac with Microsoft Word, be sure you "save as" a ".doc" file.

Now...my second email may have gone to the spam filter because I didn't get the auto-reply on the second email.

Sigh.

I'll bet the first auto-reply was triggered by having the wrong file type attached, so not getting it again is a Good Thing.

Every email sent to the submissions email receives the automatic response. It's just an agency policy so that authors know we have received their queries and to inform everyone of our submission guidelines for those who are unaware.

While, a .doc file is preferred, sending a .docx file isn't the end of the world, so don't worry too much.

Jill Grinberg requested a partial of my novel this past summer (2012) and, after I called a month later, I received a "personalized rejection" email, which is actually so personalized it is standardized. No means no, simply put. Don't over-analyze the rejection.

Correction, after I sent the partial, I received a request for the full ms. and got the very personalized standardized rejection. Summer was a long time ago.:) No precise reason for rejecting given.

I queried on 10/19 to jill@jillgrinbergliterary, not the info@jillgrinbergliterary address, right around the time when the agency was switching to the new domain. I never received an auto-response. Seeing as how the agency tends to respond fairly quickly, I'm wondering if the query was lost. Should I resend?

You should resend - while switching over to the new domain, many emails fell through the cracks. Send your query and first 50 pages to [email protected]. Our current response time is about 2 weeks.

Hi Folks,

A little help please, can someone please put a working link to the website if they have one. As the one posted by litagencyintern doesn't seem to be working?

The clicky thing posted by litagencyintern isn't a link to a website, it's an email address. Have you tried googling?

The website was indeed down, but is now back up and running. However, the agency is working a new website design, and the current website only displays the submission guidelines. Although the website seems to suggest the agency only accepts snail mail queries, this is not true. Email is greatly preferred. More information about the agency's clients, sales, and submission guidelines can be found on the Publisher's Marketplace page: http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/members/JillGrin/.

Katelyn Detweiler email issues?

Hi all,

I sent a query to Katelyn Detweiler at Jill Grinberg Literary Management and I keep getting an automated message from my email server saying that I don't need to resend the message, but that delivery has been delayed because my server hasn't been able to connect with the recipient's server...

Does anyone know if the agency is having issues with their email? Or could it be that their server doesn't like Gmail?

Thoughts and/or insights would be appreciated!:D

That's most commonly related to one of two things:

The person you're sending to has a full mailbox.

The person you're sending to has a problem with their email server/provider (when you send email, the recipient's essentially has to answer a doorbell to say "Yes, I'm here, and this is a real live address." In very very crude terms . . .). These are often temporary problems, and so YOUR email server says, essentially, I got a busy signal, so I'mma gonna try again x number of time, and then, if it still doesn't work, you get a failed delivery/bounced message report.

Litagencyintern,
I was wondering, what is your agency's current positive response time, for queries and the first fifty pages? I sent my material on March 7th and I hope to get a response soon.

I second that. I'd like to see this thread up-and-running again as it was. The agency website is still one-paged, but thank goodness for AW and its info! Of course, they rep Marissa Meyer, so seem a good match for me on the Sci-Fi/Fantasy side of things.
(NB: I won't be querying for a month or so yet, though, due to academic exams)

Jill Grinberg has been my agent since 1997

Just a quick note for anyone looking into Jill Grinberg -- I've been working with her since 1997, when she was with Russ Galen (she left within the year, and I went with her). She sold my first two novels within three months, and has represented me for all eleven (almost done with number ten; contract in hand for eleven).

Jill is a dynamo. If she believes in your work and takes it on, you can be sure she will move heaven and earth. But that's the rub: she doesn't take on work if she can't commit fully to it.

She is also a truly kind person. I have had close interactions with all of the people in her office and they are professional, friendly, and they get things done.

Interesting. I received a request from her for my full ms just 10 minutes before you posted, Rosina. When I pulled up this thread again, there you were. Thank you. Your information strikes me as the most valuable type of feedback for someone in my position.

And congratulations on what sounds like a successful writing career.

I was glad for this thread, because the agency's website does make it look like snail-mail only. I queried Katelyn via email and got a form rejection back the next day. Ah well. Glad I didn't waste the postage!

Verlin -- being a superstitious Italian type, I'll limit my good wishes to the usual: break a leg! while I toss salt over my shoulder.

I've been pretty successful, but I went down with the boat in the 2008 crash like almost everybody mid-list. It was a rough five years. Just getting going again.
