So a day or two ago my bookmarked pages for the utterly fabulous online archives of the British Pathé newsreel and film company started throwing up 404 page not found errors.

So I Googled it.

The Google search rsults look normal, but clicking on them gives you this.

What the hey?

How did a cybersquatter -- or whatever this is -- overwrite the entire huge site and film archive of a major historic resource company?

'Til your last gold dollar is gone.
The Facebook page is full of links to britishpathe.com, many put up in the last few hours. But I can't get the page to load. Maybe it's some site thing.
EDIT: maybe there's a DNS attack in progress. Has British Pathe pissed off Anonymous lately?

It seems to be back now, although when I first loaded a page it had an extra little notice at the start for a few seconds which said it was checking my browser.

That was weird.

It kind of had the earmarks of someone neglecting to renew the domain registration and a cybersquatter zooming in, maybe. But I'm no expert.

But now that it's back online, hey look, awesome historical resource!

(Including decades and decades of newsreels and documentaries, such as the other footage of the Hindenberg blowing up, liberation of concentration camps, etc.)
