Hi everybody. New member, just discovered this site the other day, but I have been a forum poster for about 10 years. I'm a hip hop lyricist and beat maker, so I've spent most of my time on hip hop sites, always a little agitated by the lack of poetics and relatively small number of people who appreciate the writing-first approach. Not sure why it never dawned on me to just come to a writing forum...but here I am. This site seems pretty sweet. Looks like there are lots of members here and I'm looking forward to chatting, sharing, and seeing the work of others.

Godspeed!

Welcome aboard

For a minute there I thought you were going to say you are a writer. As a long time Camden resident, I didn't know they could read in Philly, let alone write.

I did say I was writer.

Do you not consider a lyricist a writer?

I've written plenty of poems, short stories, reviews, essays and papers too. Does that meet your qualifications?

Awesome. Thank you for the advice. I am not self-promoter, so you won't have to worry about that. But I will indeed look forward to sharing some things... One thing I've always enjoyed on all other sites, was creating what I call a "freewriter cipher," where I encourage others to keep tacking on their own pieces, usually rapidly-written stream of conscience pieces, and using the previous poster's piece to inspire your own. The last site I was on, this lasted for about 6 years and was over 60 pages long. It was pretty neat. Unfortunately three separate sites closed down and I never saved more than about 10% of my own writing...sad losses, but great practice and fun nonetheless. I look forward to starting one of these threads here if one does not already exist.

Sorry for rant. That description took longer than I had expected.
