Am I the only one not to get a response from Bill Condarti? Should I assume my query got lost in cyberspace?

According to those reporting to Querytracker, 32% received no response from him.

Nonresponsiveness is fairly common among agents...unfortunately. So it is not just you -- if that makes you feel any better :)

I didn't receive a response from him either. I chalked it up as a "no interest" long ago.

Has anyone heard anything from Marianne Merola lately? She's had my full since May. In mid-October I got an "I'm out of the office for a week, will respond soon" form response to a nudge. I'm hoping she didn't hate my book so much that she decided not to respond at all! (he said, with a nervous laugh)

From Publishers Lunch:

Emma Patterson and Emily Forland will join Brandt & Hochman as agents effective January 1. Both Patterson and Forland were previously with the Wendy Weil Agency, and were the two principal agents looking after the agency's business following Weil's death in September.

Just wondering if anyone knows why Brandt & Hochman don't have a web site (at least one I can find). I just find that so strange in this day and age. I always assume when that happens, the agency is fly-by-night or going defunct, but I guess that is not the case with these guys?

I too find it odd that in this day and age they choose not to have a website, but I'm pretty sure they are a VERY legit and reputable agency.

They are indeed a VERY legitimate agency, and Publishers Marketplace has them listed for 15 sales in the last 12 months.

When I've been able to track information down about them via the magic of Google, the most frequently stated reason I've seen for B&H not having a website is, paraphrased, they're agents, not webmasters.

Meanwhile, I wonder if anyone has heard anything of Marianne Merola lately. She's had my full since May 1 and hasn't responded to two polite nudges (first nudge, I got an 'out of the office' autoresponder, but nothing for the last one). I suspect that no news is bad news, but it would be nice to know (and she acknowledged receipt of the ms, so I know she got it).

What's the sub guidelines for Brandt and Hochman since they don't have a website? Sample pages? Chapter? Query only?

AgentQuery says email preferred, and query letter only.

I queried Bill Contardi in January and received a rejection an hour and a half later:

"Thank you for sending me your query. Unfortunately this does not seem right
for me and so I will pass. I wish you the best."

Yeah, I heard he's quick to reply. At least you don't spend time wondering...

Has anyone heard back from Emily Forland or Emma Patterson? I heard they take only mail queries. They both must be trying to build their lists at the new agency.

Another one for the Bill Contardi is a fast responder file: Queried him yesterday (11/29), got a form R today. About 16 hours total turnaround time.

Queried Bill Contardi on 10/22/14 with YA Post-Apocalyptic. Received an email requesting a full submission on 10/27/14. With in minutes I received another email saying he was just back from vacation and mistakenly sent the request. He really meant to reject. He was nice about it, and I totally understand that people make mistakes, but was not impressed.

Wow, jtrylch13. I don't blame you for not being impressed.

I half-think he should have taken a look at the full anyway, under that circumstance. (Unless he accidentally sent full requests to everyone in his "form reject" queue, or something....)

I have a feeling I wasn't the only one. They're human, and it sucks for me, but if he wasn't interested, looking at it wouldn't change that. It could have been a one time incident and not representative of his usual business dealings, but I still don't think I'll be querying him with my next project.

Queried Emma Patterson with an Adult Historical Mystery. Received a full MS request the next day (6/28) and a very positive, personalized, helpful 'pass' on 7/28. If anyone writes in the genres she represents, I'd definitely give her a shot. She seems like one of the good ones :)
