Fangorious

So. "Fangorious" is not a word. I did know this much. But I was poking around on the innarwebz trying to find out when it came into being to see if it's common enough or too recent/specific to use in a book that takes place before, say, internet times.

I can't find any reference to it that does not link it to Strongbad (of Trogdor fame). Which I thought was odd, because I *feel* like I saw it or heard it around before Strongbad existed (came into existence in 2001). But I can't remember where, and of course I realize I could be imagining it...

I won't use it, because if it's that recent and has ties that strong to a web...thingy, then it's super inappropriate for the manuscript. But now I'm curious. Because, in my head, "fangorious" was somewhere in the category of "ginormous"--common--but now I'm wondering if it's more like "ermahgerd" and dependent on deep familiarity with the internet...

Am I imagining it, or is it purely a Strongbad thing? Have you heard of it before? Is it common or is it only "common" to folks such as myself whose adolescent vocabulary was slightly affected by internet memes...?

Best definition I can find is from Uncyclopedia:

Fangorious is an adjective used to describe something of gargantuan size, hunger, and teeth.

Sort of a combination of toothy and monstrous, emphasis on the teeth...adjectivalish version of "fang."

Back in the '60s there was a monster magazine called Fangoria. It was filled with photos and articles about movie monsters: Dracula, Mummy, Wolfman, etc. Maybe there's a connection of some kind.
