Bird, do you think it might be a good idea, now that you've broken the drought so to speak, to maybe send one or two more out? So that you're not totally focused on this one?

Sorry. But have you ever imagined how cathartic it would be to just send a ton of 'em out? Shotgun approach? Myself, I've sent about a dozen, and not a one in the past few months. Out of those dozen, about half replied. One requested a full. Have yet to hear back. One was definitely a form. I didn't realize it till a poster on here quoted the same agent with the same rejection. I stopped 'cause I got busy with another project that looked as good as you could hope for. The crushing pullout came a little over a week ago and I'm still reeling. If and when I pick myself up and dust myself off, I will take my advice and bury New York City in queries, like confetti wafting from skyscrapers on VJ Day. If for no other positive result than to cleanse myself of the process.

If I wanted to cleanse myself of the process, the best way would be an orgy of file-deletion, which is not outside the realm of consideration. Instead, I sent out another one.

And anticipate the same result.

Goodluck, now you may get at least two reads.

I didn't get a first read. No, that's not expressed properly. My story didn't get a first read. That's what frustrates me most. I keep thinking the story deserves that much. Me? Nobody reads me. What matters is the story. I feel bad for the story, like somehow I've let it down in a horrible way I don't understand.

I like how you put it.

I can tell you're very emotionally invested in your story.

Wish you the best!

Let the process take over. One comes back, another one goes out. No excuses. No emotion. The process is mechanical, mysteriously fueled. It can go on forever.

You can angst as much as necessary after the letter goes out or the sent button is pushed. But let the process go on.

Hooray!!!! I sent my first query about a year and a half ago and I remember feeling excited/nervous/all over the place! It is a BIG DEAL and you should relish in all the feelings that go along with it :D

Send out more. My first reject was really hard on me. She had read some of the ms because a friend had passed it on to her but didn't like my baby :( Fortunately others have shown interest, and more importantly they "get" the ms.
