Oh yes. My dog isn't exactly cuddly. I mean, he loves attention, but he can't sit still long enough to really cuddle.

Unless I'm upset. Then, he might not cuddle, but he lays right next to me. If I move, he moves so that he's still touching me.

Also, my husband travels a lot. My dog behaves so differently when he's home than when he's not. As in, he actually behaves. He knows that daddy's gonna punish him (and momma doesn't really ever do that).

One time while my husband was away for 6 weeks, I went away for a week to visit some family. Our neighbors whom my dog LOVES, watched him for me. They said he was mopey the whole time. He didn't jump around like he normally does, and he often pooped on the floor - something he has been trained for almost two years now not to do. (he's only just over 2 years old). I think he acted this way because he was sad I was gone and afraid I might not come back.

They absolutely do, in my opinion. Now, if I could only train my dogs to make coffee when I'm not feeling well (in addition to fetching the paper), I'd have it made.

Star to the right and straight on till morning.
We have four cats and as it turns out, one of them will seek me out and cuddle if I'm not feeling well, bored, or bummed out. While I am very, very grateful that each cat has a highly unique personality, I'm kinda surprised only one of them wants to cuddle. So I'm curious to know, do your cats or dogs or etc pets like to snuggle when you're blue?

(The two dogs are adorable but I don't think I'd brand them as especially sympathetic to the plight of their owners.) ^_^
Ello, cupcake. ;)

Good to see you posting. Yes, all of my animals have sensed my feelings. My AbbyCat who lives with my daughter is the most sensitive. She's a purebred Siamese. She wouldn't leave my side when I was upset and would stare at my face with such concern and then curl up next to me and purr. If I didn't pet her, she'd nip my elbow as if to say, "come on, you know you will feel better if you pet me."

Rags

They Called Him Rags
by Edmund Vance Cooke
Submitted by Susan Roghair [email protected]
They called him Rags, he was just a cur
But twice on the Western Line,
That little old bunch of faithful fur
Had offered his life for mine.

And all he got was bones and bread
And the leaving of soldiers' grub,
But he'd give his heart for a pat on the head,
A friendly tickle or rub.

And Rags got home with the regiment,
And then, in the breaking away--,
Well, whether they stole him, or whether he went,
I am not prepared to say.

But we mustered out, some to beer and gruel,
And some to sherry and shad,
And I went back to the Sawbones School,
Where I was an undergrad.

One day they took us budding M.D.'s
To one of those institutes
Where they demonstrate every new disease
By means of bisected brutes.

They had one animal tacked and tied
And slit like a full-dressed fish,
With his vitals pumping away inside
As pleasant as one might wish.

I stopped to look like the rest, of course,
And the beast's eyes leveled mine;
His short tail thumped with a feeble force,
And he uttered a tender whine.

It was Rags, yes, Rags! who was martyred there,
Who was quartered and crucified,
And he whined that whine which is doggish prayer
And he licked my hand--and died.

And I was no better in part nor whole
Than the gang I was found among,
And his innocent blood was on the soul
Which he blessed with his dying tongue.

Well! I've seen men go to courageous death
In the air, on sea, on land!
But only a dog would spend his breath
In a kiss for his murderer's hand.
And if there's no heaven for love like that,
For such four-legged fealtly--well!
If I have any choice, I tell you flat,
I'll take my chance in hell.

I suffer from a high anxeity life and terrible nightmares. My Husky mix sleeps in my bed with me. She woke me from my terror by licking my face adn nibbling my hands. Once awake she sat perfectly still while I cried into her thick coat.

Another time I was listening to the music channel on Television. A song came on that was a trigger for me. I fell to the floor howling like a baby, curled in the fetal possition hyperventalating. Freya my dog came into the room, layed down with her face almost touching mine and just waited until I got through it. Once it was over she let me squeeze her for I dont know how long.

I believe my pets know more about us then we could ever give them credit for.

Awwww, that's so sweet, F.M.!

If I cry (like, out loud sobs and sniffles) my lab definitely comes over to see what is up.

If I laugh or otherwise display excitement in my voice, she goes CRAZY. Like if I'm talking to my kids and we start bantering and joking, she's all up in the middle trying to be a part of.

Also, if I'm on the phone talking, I think she figures I might be talking to her, because she comes over and tries to "interact." :D

Otherwise, she just hangs out close by. I think she's attuned, but there's usually some outward expression by her family humans that gets her attention.
