October, 2012 Prompt - Malice

This month's prompt is not so easy.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a scene of no more than 2 thousand words in which you attempt to generate in the reader a sense of great malice or malevolence on the part of a major character or villain or monster.

Essentially, this is a chapter, not an entire story, but if you can do an entire story in 2k words, go for it. If not, a chapter length scene will do.

Let's keep things to 2k words +/-200 words or thereabouts.

I assume I can take a character from my WIP? It would give me a chance to develop a piece of the backstory, which doesn't fit in the flow of the book, into writing.

I could actually justify the diversion...

But isn't it original if I haven't actually written it yet? Or do you mean original / new to me idea?

No, it's original if you have not yet committed it to some electronic or hand/type-written form. Thought patterns don't count. An outline doesn't count. What counts is 2k worth if words down in the Horror SYW forum and not telling ME where it came from (as if I'd actually care).

I think I'm gonna do the chapter-scene as well--thanks for putting that up as an option, Greg! (Although the last two shorts I wrote were both under 2k, so I guess I must be getting better at the whole short form thing...)

What's making me giggle is the idea of a 2K chapter length. My chapters generally run 5-8K. My average scene is around 2K.

I guess I'm weird. LOL!
